Okay so I know using 17 inch wheels isn't all to popular since using 18s gives you more options not only in tires but also brake choice however I found a nice set of affordable wheels and asked if they could be made into 17x9 and 17x12 sizes and they said yes all in all under 1k for the wheels

I was planning on using c5 z06 brakes from kore3 but I know that those brakes require a minimum of a 17 wheel and even then sometimes they might not fit. So I'd like to see what brakes I could use that offer great stopping power that I can stuff under the 17s? Thanks!

Any 12.88" brake kit from Wilwood, or most Baer 13" kits.

I have 17x12 and 17x7 rims on my 1st gen and use C5 brakes (PBR Calipers and DBA Discs). These two companies are the OEM suppliers to GM. Fit great
Just note you need a 1" mount pad on the back of your rim (fronts) to clear the caliper

What style wheel are you running? I know that the fitment has a lot to do with the wheel spoke design

Rushforth Concept II's
Rears are tubbed, not mini tub, tubbed, new rails that are narrower and a 4 link
My goal was a big rim, but also lots of sidewall on the tyre. hence I run 390 x 40 drag radials

I'm afraid of installing the brakes and finding out the wheel the wheels won't work I know kore3 has templates on his website but don't really know how to go about measuring .

They are close, probably 5mm clearance
But they do clear.
If the valve stem is inside the rim (likely) get flush mounted stems otherwise that will be your issue. Rears there is heaps of room. Rears aren't any issue. It's fronts that it gets tight
I may have misread your question. the 5mm is from spoke to front face of calliper. I now think you mean calliper to actual rim (not spokes). Will duck into the garage and check now

OK sorry these are really dirty. My Camaro sees a lot of road time.
As you can see here the rim just clears by a few mm's, probably 2mm the "fins" on the calliper. But that is more than enough, never had an issue with 4 years on the road

But it has just enough room to work. I'll download kore3s template and measure measure measure! I'm really set on using c z06 stuff and 17s are the only affordable wheels I can find that aren't repos

Looks like if need be you could grind on the fins a little to give you more clearance.

I might be reading it wrong but according to what I see on Kore-3's website the Z06 brakes need a minimum 18" wheel, not 17" wheel.
I used the templates off their web site and they didn't fit the 18" wheels I had. Tobin told me they don't fit all 18" wheels either. I ended going down one size and using their C5/C6 Z51 kit. It's awesome.

If need be you can always go a little more agressive on the brake pads to get the stopping power you want.

The C6 ZO6 brakes need at least 18" because they have a 14" rotor. The C5 ZO6 uses a 13" rotor and should fit in 17" wheels, but its not guaranteed. The C6 Z51 uses a 13.5" rotor and probably wont fit in 17" wheels.

Great extra info, thanks.

Keep wheel weights in mind. It's nice if the caliper can clear them so you're not forced to run external lead weights which aren't always available anymore.
