I’m currently looking at changing the stock suspension on my 1981 Pontiac Trans Am. I’m looking at a strong performance (pro-touring, auto-x) with adjustability while keeping long drive comfort. I also need to achieve a 2” drop.
A guy I know is selling his SPC 94340 Upper Control Arms and Heidt 312-N-M 1" narrowed Lower Control Arms. He is also selling a Hellwig rear sway bar 3/4” (5816). I will purchase a Hellwig front sway bar 1 5/16”. I have already installed solid body bushings, sub-frame connectors, and adjustable Y-braces combined with adjustable Cowl-brace from PTFB. Running Wilwood 6-piston Big Brakes in the front, stock disc brakes in rear.
I’m looking at purchasing the remaining items to complete the front suspension. Since the Heidt LCA are for coil-overs. I’m looking at purchasing Vari-Shock or Vi-King coil-over shocks. Also the HOWE (not sure of part number) or SPC (94017) extended ball joint. I’m not sure what shock rate would give me the proper height (2” drop) with a Pontiac 400 Big Block. I also need to find Delrin bushings for my combination. What would be recommended to add/change in this set up? What do be recommended I get for front coil-over shocks and what rate?
For the rear suspension, I’m really not sure which combination would give me a proper height. My friend is using Landrum (LAN21-342) leaf springs with Vari-Shock (14264-715) and it gives him the perfect stance and performance. I’m not sure if I could run same set up or use another leaf spring to achieve the performance and drop I’m looking for. I will also need Delrin bushings, U-bolts, etc., but not sure where to get a proper kit that would have all the pieces I need. What would you be recommended for a rear leaf set up running Vari-Shocks or Vi-King shocks to achieve performance and 2" drop?
Thank you!
