68 Camaro with Console-Shifter Plate Options

I want to replace my shift plate on my center console. It is the factory style walnut finish and want to get rid of it. It seems that most of the shifter plates I have found are all walnut for the factor console. I am looking for something finished in black. Let me know.

The walnut finish is just glued to the metal plate underneath. I took a heat gun and paint scraper and carefully removed it. Some light sanding (or wire wheel) on the metal plate underneath cleans it up nicely. I spray painted the metal a satin black, with some light 400 grit sanding between coats to smooth it out, finished by a couple coats of satin polyurethane, more light sanding and a final buffing. It looks great and much better than the wood grain. Just be careful sanding as the metal is thin, and if not careful you can grind down the edges. You can use trim adhesive to glue it back into the console plate.

Exactly! A little patience, some sanding (lightly), and some "Hot Rod Black" gets you great results!
