Cuda front track width?

Hey guys I am new to the board. I am working on my 1972 Cuda pro touring project and I need some information. I am trying to figure out the front suspension but I need to know how wide the front track width can be from outside of tire to outside of tire and still fit between the stock fenders. I do want the car lowered a little bit and the front tires up in the fenders at ride height. Can anybody help me with these measurements? I don't have my fenders yet.

That seems really wide to me. The factory specs say it is 57.5" stock. How can you fit another 14.5" between the fenders? Maybe I am just not understanding how they measure track width from the factory. I'm not trying to argue I just want to be sure it will fit before I build the front suspension around that measurement.

3 quick definitions to help your conversation ...

1. Track width ... is center of tread to center of tread
2. Tread width ... is outside edge of tread to outside edge of tread
3. Tire width ... is outside of sidewall to outside of sidewall

57.5" is referring to track width.

What type of front suspension are you using? If you are running the stock stuff you will be limited to a 255 Max. width in the front. Any larger and you will rub the inside of the inner fender and the inside of the front fender. Now if you go to a custom offset wheel, you may be able to squeak a 275 under the front.

I run a 255/45/17 in the front and 285/40/17 in the rear of my challenger and have no issues. The rear of the Cuda's can handle a 295 or 305 with careful measurement.

I am trying to design a custom front suspension using wildwood pro spindles and tubular control arms. I am not a big fan of the torsion bar front ends on the E bodies. Plus I want rack and pinion steering.

I was doing research on my Cuda and I plan on running the DSE 535 http://www.detroitspeed.com/X-Gen-Products/032041-X-gen-535.html stub. with the right back space I can run an 18 x 10 and 295 tire.

Are you looking at a junkyard suspension or something else?

If you are going to put the energy into designing a complete suspension, especially for a wider front tire, I would suggest looking beyond the Wilwood spindle. While it is a quality piece, it's not very conducive to modern suspension geometry.

Just as an FYI, Chassisworks offers an A-Arm cross member suspension system that is a clean-sheet design. It's been proven on the street and around the cones. I know it has been installed in a car like yours before, too. It's under $4500 with adjustable VariShock coilovers, power rack, anti-roll bar, and Wilwood brakes. It uses our Chassisworks designed tall-drop spindle. There are tons of options too, so you can configure it for street, track, or autocross.
