Out of curiosity, did you support the exhaust behind the body where it exits? I want to do the same thing, but I'm worried it will rattle over bumps. That would drive me nuts.

Basically, I did have to modify the hinges so the cover would sit flat. McMaster Carr has any kind of pin you would need.

Ok, I know it's been a while since I posted, I had some house chores to get caught up on. But I'm finally back on the truck. Removed the cab from the chassis, and started prepping for bedliner underneath and painting the firewall. It takes a lot of time to body work around all the features on the firewall, but it's getting there.

I'm super interested to hear how the Lizard Skin performs. I've read that it only adds about 5lbs to a car when you coat to their recommendations. Small price to pay for the comfort gained. Been considering it for myself. How bad was the application process compared to normal paint?

Application is easy, I found that mixing in about 5% water to thin it out a bit made it spray much better.

So I picked up a cheap Ebay scale so I could weigh some of the components, just out of curiosity. The chassis came in lighter than I expected at 480Lbs.
The engine and trans together came in at 770Lbs , and the Dana 60 was 275lbs. I don't know if these or good or bad (doesn't really matter) anybody have any weights for comparison?

I think the weight will be what it is! as you said , its where you put the weight that maters most!
Keeping the weight as low as possible and trying to get it as close to 50/50 bal. is key!
cool project!

10-20-2019, 03:45 PM
Your weights are correct as what I have seen. I want to caution you about something. All ceramic insulation only does so much. It;s pretty good at sound deadening but heat transfer is not where it accels. I use a product called Low E insulation. There are many places to buy this product. It's thin and easily glued to all surfaces. I have used it in the last couple of hot rods I've built. Your truck has enough area in the cab that a good ac unit such as Vintage Air will do a good job but on a tight confine builds such as a 32 Ford, you will need all the insulation you can get. Thickness always causes problems. Your project is looking good! :)

One thing I've found out that I like, preheating the part and shooting while still hot ( aka "hot flocking" ) seems to give me better results and uses less powder. Hot flocking also allows coating of non conductive items like glass.

Front calipers are done, these babies are monsters. The pistons are 2 1/4" in dia. That makes 4 square inches per piston, 16 square inches per caliper, times 1200psi line pressure equals 19,200lbs of force per caliper, times 2. That should be enough to stop on a dime, and leave 5 cents change.....170040

I was getting my car ready to travel. I found a guy to do the wiring on it I put a new master cylinder on it, and bled the new lines so we could at least stop it.. Stainless lines, almost every connection leaked. I tightened them so much to stop the leaks I was afraid they would strip. It's there now, probably for a month and a half if all goes well.
I'm going to try to get the garage finished and maybe a 4 post lift.

When I saw that coil setup, made me wonder if it was like a Caravan coilpack and a Neon/Stratus coilpack, or if it was a Viper specific setup.
Looks awesome, can't wait to see the body back on!

Fresh parts look great! It's a shame that you can't keep them that way if you really drive it. It would be great if you had an update a year down the road and it had about 30,000 miles on it already. :)
My previous build has about 23,000 miles on it since completion, (about 7 years) but I do plan on driving this one further. :drive1:

I thought the same, In fact the 6 coil is easy to find, and fairly cheap, however the 4 is practically non-existent and more than twice the price of the 6, go figure..

Interesting wire routing for the fans. Are those Anderson Power Poles? I used to use those on my RC cars, but then moved on to Deans connectors, because they were a tighter fit and then went to Traxxas connectors because they were easier to grip to pull apart than the Deans. Nowadays, I use XT60 (they also have other sizes like XT40, etc. I believe) because they seem to work nearly as well at a fraction of the price. But I mainly use them for speaker wire connections now.

Yes, they are Power poles, I used to use them back in my R/C days also. I'm going to cover them with heat shrink, so they won't come apart, and not look so bad.

Counting the body being done, it's been since 2007. Me changing drive trains is part of the problem. When things take a long time you have too much time to think about the new stuff that just came out. I just looked up the definition of Scope Creep and boy that could be my project name and be right on the money!

I've been trying to put together all the plumbing for the truck. I've learned a valuable lesson, whatever manufacturers hose you decide to use, make sure you use their hose ends, they will fit much better. I am using Vibrant hose, and for the life of me, I could not get an Earl's fitting to go on. Thank goodness Summit takes returns. 148567Awesome job. The whole truck is incredible. It looks like you attached the bulkhead fitting to the top of the inner fender, I assume you came straight out the side from the evaporator and tied it in to the bulkhead with hoses? You don’t by any chance have a pic of under the fender do you. I also have a 67 D100, I’m using the Vintage Air unit and trying to get as close to the kick panel as I can. Thanks.-Ed

I would be interested in your review of the belts once you have gotten some seat time with them. I have been considering them with a seat replacement since my factory seats have integrated belts and the truck sees a good bit of street time. This is the first time I have actually seen the Corbeau retractables used.

Technically, they are not mounted properly. The shoulder straps should be mounted as close to horizontal as possible, but in a regular cab truck, it's not really possible..

Yes, not aesthetically pleasing but still better than a compressed spine, which is what happens when belts are mounted that way.
