Real estate is tight. Anyone have any ideas on where to mount AC condenser and trans cooler? 1st thought is to mount the condenser as it's designed (in front of the rad). Where do I put the tranny cooler? One thought was to get rid of the hood release lever and switch to a VW type latch with a cable and free up some space, but I am trying to avoid that if possible. What are you doing with the car? Trans coolers work if they're in front of the condenser but if you're racing it a lot I'd try stuffing it in a place with more airflow. I've had one mounted in front of the condenser on my 82 TA for a while and it hasn't given me any issues but I don't track it that much.

Been working on the VA system for my 69RS recently. Talk about tight. Try adding the Hideaway head lights to the equation when using the DSE large 14"X24"
condenser. Actually it's a BeCool unit.
I mounted the condenser as hi as possible by welding some 1/4" x 3/4"L threaded sleeve nuts to the radiator support and making a couple of mounting bracket plates to mount the two together.
For the trans cooler mount I'm looking at making a removable bracket that will attach to the hood latch support and radiator support.

I have a LS with a 4L60E just trying to keep the tranny cool. The tranny dropped 50 -70F when I added the cooler I don't want to loose the benefit. I just can't see a place to mount it. There is no room in front of the condenser.

Cool! Hideaways.
Give the man a cutting torch. JK!

I may be wrong but you should have plenty of room up there unless there is a A/C drier in the way. Or its one hella large trans cooler.
But even that said, A couple of customized "L" ish brackets from the hood latch support to the radiator support should do the trick as to mount the trans cooler in front of the condenser by far.
I'm mocking up my 69 SBC 383CID/200r4 w/a Art Carr Deep Trans pan with a set of custom brackets for use of a B&W trans cooler should I need it. Wont really know if I need it till after she is on the road and I know what temp the trans is running at.

Hideaways don't help for sure. It's a big tranny cooler.. I think 10" x 12".

I mounted mine on the driver side in front of the radiator as shown below.

Thank you! About the only area it will fit in. Do you have any close ups of how you mounted it? Also I am not sure but is it recommended that you mount the cooler with the fittings pointing up like that? I thought it was a no no :)

I can get you some closeup pics later. I mounted the trans cooler per B&M's recommendation, http://www.catalograck.com/ImgVD/BMA/9500835-00.pdf

I remember you couldn't mount it one specific way, I guess it's with the inlets/outlets pointing down. Thank you

PS I think we have the same cooler, It looks like in size anyways. I have my overflow in that spot, but I will most likely move it to the engine bay side to make room for the cooler, now that my horn relay has been eliminated.

Hey there,
B&M says pointed up or to the sides.
Here's a preliminary mock up of mine in process on my 69RS. I just need to square it out and and add some additional support. Plenty of room with the grill on too. https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Thanks Kurt. We got as far as removing the blower motor old heater core cover last night. We should be getting to this area in the next day or so. Looks like a possibility just wondering about the sturdiness of this spot while still keeping it looking clean after adding some more support.. Interesting though thank you.

Like i stated, this is a preliminary mock-up and not finalized but I have all sorts of room.
I'm pondering a couple of bracketing ideas for the side that is not supported in these pics. With the remainder bracketing ideas I'm playing with, it is hella sturdy.

I ended up mounting it on the same side as rocketrod, but closer to the middle to the vertical bracket for the hood release like ARAD, just so I can clear the hideaway lights and also give some support to the cooler. I used a L bracket to secure it to the center bracket in the middle and a Vertical bracket going from top to bottom on the rad support for the right side.

I also learned that 67 68 and 69's all have different hood release mechanisms with the 68 and 69 giving you more clearance of course my 67 had the least amount of clearance :(

Thank you

Where are you going to be mounting the dryer?

Pondering 2 options.
Either on the firewall tucked under the passenger side fender, or just to the right side of the radiator support since I'm moving the battery to the trunk.
I could still mount it the the condenser where they are normally mounted but I'm going for a clean non cluttered look.

92794it may or may not apply here, but for those that have space issues with trans coolers take a look into these. they can be placed just about anywhere in the line and though i have never used one i have talked to a few that say they work great. chatted with a guy at a show that had one on each side of the frame next to the transmission. his were installed in 73-87 chevrolet 1 ton dually tow vehicle for his 64 GTO, said he never had a trans cooling problem at all.

Not sure how efficient those are.
