So the new LS needs a starter. It's a 11.0:1 compression ratio 427. I see Powermaster and MSD have some good options, but not sure what i "need". Do i "need" a 4.4 to 1 reduction 3hp starter motor? Seems to me these brutes will spin the motor over slower... just looking for a reliable starter that will do it's job. The Powermaster does make claims of being "hot start-proof", anyone have any experience with them?

Stock ones will work, LS7's are high compression. Can't go wrong with a lifetime warranty from one of the auto parts stores either ;)

Make sure whatever one you get that your wiring will work, I had a powermaster and I believe it was a magnetic drive, I spoke with powermaster and they said you should jump from solenoid to start wire, If you plan to mount a solenoid in trunk and battery, I would call powermaster if you go that route.

Nothing wrong with the stock one, mine has served me well with the built LS7. It has lived through extensive track time and even a clutch going poof, I literally had to extract clutch fragments from inside the nose cone.
