Okay, I'm down, but not out! Any help is appreciated. :hmm:
In the front I bought 18x8 Bonspeed wheels for my 69 Camaro with a 5" backspacing. They should have worked, but I have dropped spindles and a rear steer bolt-on Steeroids rack and pinion. The inside outer lip of the rim rubbed against the spherical tie rods. I put on 7/16" spacers, but they gave me less than an 1/8 of an inch space between the tie rod and the rim.
I have talked to MC Motorsports who is going to make me some hub centric adapters. My question is do I have them make me a 3/4", 7/8", or 1" spacer. The car sits pretty low and I am concerned about the tires rubbing the outer fender wells on turns. Unfortunately, I have 245/40-18 tires, I'm thinking I will have to buy 235/35 or 225/35.
When I pulled off the old rim/tire (15x7) the tire had rubbed pretty bad on the spherical tie rod and there was about 3/4" to 1" of space between them. Amazing how taking hard turns can do this. This concerns me because I don't want to get too close with the new rim/tire combo. I know there will be less sway with less tire now but still.
