Is there any pros or cons to rear caliper positions? I need to clear staggered rear shocks on the back of my second gen Camaro. I know people are putting two left side brackets on there and leaving them on either side of the axle. Any problems arise from this? is it optimal to have them on the same side, top or bottom? Common sence tells me that it wouldnt matter, but figured id ask just in case.

It shouldn't matter. It's just a matter of clearing the shocks.

In my experience the only time this is considered outside of suspension or moving parts are concerned, is when it comes to racing the vehicle. Engineers look at this factor to help determine where to place the extra weight of a caliper and how it will effect the handling characteristics under the most demanding conditions.

True, If you look at most peformance cars you will notice the calipers are mounted forward. The theory is that it is for cooling and weight transfer. With the caliper mounted forward the clamping of rotational mass forces the tire downwards for increase tire patch during braking.

Be sure that your bleed screws are in a position where you can get all of the air out of your brake system. Overlook this and you will reach a frustration level beyond belief when you go to bleed the lines. :banghead:

This is very important. I had to mount my rear calipers directly above the axle to clear all the suspension components. I actually have to take the calipers off and hold the pistons with a C-clamp to bleed them.

Hey Bill, which calipers and brackets are you using?
