I've done 4 or 5 of these in fist gens. Directions say to start at the back of the car, but I prefer to mount the fuse box first and work my way out from there. I do under the dash first, then move toward the back. When all that is done i move under the hood. Just my perference. I also don't care for using the connectors/plugs for the taillight sockets. I just dont see the need for them as they are easily accessible. And they fit nicely in the wireloom without the connectors. You'll find there are several wires not used in different parts of the harness. If youre unsure about any of them, just zip tie or tape them into a bundle until you are finished. You can remove any uneeded wiring from the bulkhead if you wish. I typically make a tight coil of the unused underhood wires, zip tie the bundle, then tuck them in the cavity of the innder fender below the bulkhead. Just in case...

We do much the same as was specified above. I locate the fuse block and then group the wires based on their location. Meaning separate all the rear body wires, front harness, engine compartment, dash section. From there you can work on which ever section you want first. I like to complete a full section before I move to another.

follow the instruction if your unsure of anything. Like the other stated, I start with mounting the fuse panel then start at the rear and move forward doing the engine and front light harnesses last

I'll make it unanimous, start with the fuse block and go from there. it should be easy enough to just go in one direction at a time and 8 hrs later or less and you should be done.

I would take it all out first. It may help you to lay all the old wiring on the ground in the configuration it was in the car. You can refer back to it for guidance if needed.

Love American Wire harness.
Here is one installed on my 65 SS.
Same as above, I started with fuse box, moved to tail lights, then engine bay.
Hope the pictures help.
