Hey all,

I talked with Larry and he has given me permission to post this request for beta testers for the website I’ve been working on. I’m looking for help from my Pro-Touring.com family to login to TCD (Test Car Database).

To give a concise definition of the goal of TestCarDatabase is to: “Create a database that manufacturers can utilize to find vehicles to use for testing and promoting new products.” Behind the scenes, manufacturers will be able to search for vehicles they need for the purpose of R&D.

87181

First, the most important task is to start adding vehicles to the database. I need to know how the database reacts as more vehicles are added. Please, only add your real vehicles to the database. No matter what type of vehicle, 2014 (KONI and others say they need newer vehicles) or older (many manufacturers need older vehicles), stock or hot-rodded, or complete or in pieces. There’s no need to add your VIN, that box is only if you want to add it for VIN research I’ve been doing for assembly plant production research for Camaros and Firebirds. I will be the only person who ever sees your VIN. That information will even be hidden from future moderators. Your email address and personal information will be hidden from the public and from future sponsors. The only information made public is your “Display Name” and your vehicle make, model, year, and its equipment.

Check the “FAQ” page and the “About Us” page. Make sure everything in those two areas is clearly written and the information in the previous two paragraphs is clearly conveyed.

Since the site is new, not all of the links go to other pages. Some will reload the same page and that’s okay. Some links will state “Under Construction” and that’s okay too. If a link goes to a blank page, please let me know.

When the site goes live shortly, I will be running monthly contests to win parts from participating manufacturers (I can’t disclose particular manufacturers yet, but at SEMA I got really good response from the best and biggest names in the industry). The only way for members to win is to fill out all the available database options.

Please give me all your thoughts and opinions. I will read and consider them all.

I will be adding a forum in the future to support the site.

So I can track all your input, please send response emails to: TCD—at—testcardatabase.com
To get to the website, you need to go to this hidden link: http://www.testcardatabase.com/portal/Home.aspx

Go the top of the homepage and register, then you can login and start testing! Once you’ve registered and logged in, you will see the “VEHICLE” link towards the top of the page. Click the “VEHICLE” link to search member vehicles and add new vehicles.

Beta testers have given this tip: When adding the database options (where you select body color, interior color, brand of front suspension, etc.). If you don’t go to the bottom of the page and click the “SAVE” button, all your options will be blown away upon exiting the option page.
I will be addressing this in the near future, but for now, please be aware.

Here's a sample picture showing a Camaro added to the database. It also shows the tabs where all the data can be added. The cool thing about the database is that other people can see what parts you are running on your car. When I add wheels and tires, you'll be able to add tire and wheel sizes as well as backspace dimensions so people can see what wheels fit different vehicles.
87182

As the title states, it's free to be a member. Even if your vehicle doesn't get picked for R&D, you can still win cool products.

(Additional info: cars and trucks welcome. Any make, model, year.)

Thanks again for your help!

Sincerely,
Tony Huntimer

do you want pictures of cars that are in process? I'm just getting mine put together. Or do you want to wait until they're finished?

In process or finished. All are welcome. You can always replace old pictures with new ones as you progress.

The first thing I noticed was that the site does not resize to my screen resolution resulting in my having to scroll left and right to see the entire screen. Also, color selection for interior does not have "other" where you can specify a color. For example, my truck interior is Charcoal which is not the same as black.

Are you looking for PT cars or do you want common vehicles as well? I added my 2007 Silverado 2500HD since I know there are a ton of manufacturers making aftermarket parts for trucks as well.

Steve,

Thanks! I added "other" in the paint department.

Also, yes on all vehicles. :) I will be working with truck companies as well.

Just put 2 of my cars in there, i like the idea of the site and hope it works out well. I do think that all topics need either a Custom or Other option in there. Maybe an area to write in details as well. Also Billet specialties is not in the steering column options, not like I am expecting every single aftermarket supplier to be in there already

If you give me the screen resolution are you using, I can run it by my developer.

I added the interior color "charcoal" and "other".

Steve,

I added Billet Specialties to the steering columns. If you see other manufactures of parts I have not added, I'm willing to add them. ;)

I also added custom and other to most of the categories that apply.

I'm working on adding a "write in" section. That's much harder to add than the stuff I added tonight, so it won't happen until after I get all the other tabs populated.

Thanks for all your suggestions,

Thanks all for your comments and vehicle additions so far. There's some great input so far from everyone...even if I have not addressed your input individually. :)

Every add helps in many ways.

Different manufactures I talked to at SEMA will be looking for brand new, new...within a few years old, and all the way back. Some companies want to do R&D for new products and some want to do testing of current products in different environments/driving/racing applications, so everything is wide open.

Thanks again for your support so far,

Things I noticed…

It was a bit buggy in returning to the site after idling out of time. I assume that is probably because you're working on the development stuff now so I wouldn't sweat it.

Front Suspension
Save is not working
Springs - don't have Hyperco
Bushings - don't have aluminum/spherical
Steering Pump Bracket - missing about a million options
Should probably have a category for spindle
Could also have a category for hub
Might want a category for wheel studs

More later…

O and you still do not have a tab for my transfer case or front diff stuff, LOL. Maybe just a blank spot to say something more about the car would be good

Added my 78 T/A
Some thing I have to choose 'other' Have a lot of 'other' in my specs it seems.
Gold was not a listed color.
Herb Adams/ VSE, Pro touring F body not listed as suspension
Aldan Eagle not listed in shocks
Cerullo not listed for seats
Gaugemarks not listed for gauges
Flaming river not listed for steering wheel

Adding pictures and keeping them in order needed work. Mainly when I deleted 1 and tried to upload another in the same location.

Takid455,

I added Gold to all color option menus. Good catch!
I added Herb Adams VSE to the sway bar and front suspension bushing selections. I know he produced other parts like chassis braces and subframe bushings... what else?
I added the other selections for your shocks, seats, gauges, and steering wheel.

Thanks for adding your vehicle and for letting me know what else to add!

That's great!

If you "do" Facebook, don't forget to like our FaceBook (http://www.facebook.com/testcardatabase) page. It's an easy way for me to let everyone know when we have updates and giveaways.

We should have all the additional database tabs ready for beta testing by the weekend.

Hey all,

My web guy added new tabs to the site yesterday. I'm still populating the tabs with the manufacturers. If you find errors, please let me know I have a feeling there are a few. I got some big manufacturers on board this week. We'll be giving away some great prizes in the near future.

We'll be sending out giveaway information on the FaceBook (http://www.facebook.com/testcardatabase) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/TestCarDatabase) feeds, so don't forget to get connected if you use either one of those forms of social media.

Happy Holidays,

Couple of things as I'm going through....

A "removed" option would be nice in a lot of the drop downs for interior items and such.

Under "Engines" Dodge BBC(Big Block Chevy) and Dodge SBC(Small Block Chevy)?

No option for Other or Ersons for Lifters

Internal Valve Size and External Valve Size for Cylinder Heads?

A "Custom" or "One Off" option would be nice for a lot of stuff, brackets, Torque Converters, etc.

No N/A for many of the trans options for Manuals.

Missing a bunch of vendors - might want to add other to all the drop downs
- rather slow to refresh
- images do not always load
- would be nice to have a description area for the car - describe the work.

Thanks for your valuable input! I've been populating those new menus like a madman for the last 2 days. I've taken your advice on a bunch of stuff.

I'm trying not to give "other" options in many of the areas until I know I've included all the manufacturers I can think of.

As for the spelling mistakes for valves and the "crackshaft", that's my web developer. I tried to fix it, but he'll have to fix those mistakes after the holidays. That's why were beta testing. :)

GT500KR_Vert,

Thanks for the input,
Once we are done beta testing and get more cars on the database, we are going to get a dedicated server and get faster services.
I am trying to hold off on adding "OTHER" to the menus until I have added all the manufacturers I can think of. There's a good chance if someone selects "OTHER", they will never go back to fix it once I've added the manufacturers. So, if you see missing manufacturers, please let me know which ones and I'll add them ASAP. :)

I had thought about a "description" area, but wasn't sure anyone would fill it out. Maybe we should add it...

Thanks for your input!

Why do you want people's VINs??

TonyHuntimer

Rob,
The VIN isn't required. It's only if you want to submit for my own Camaro VIN and factory production research. In the future, I'll have an area for Camaro owners to submit their cowl tag information (if they choose) so age-old questions about the production of Camaros built at the different plants can be answered...like the size of the batches of bodies painted different colors (especially the special order colored Camaros).
Nobody but me will see the VIN numbers.

All the functions of the system seemed to work for except a couple small drop downs that were dead. It did make me feel like my car was not hardly modified, being that some of the areas I have more mods and such the option for that manufacture or type of modification was not present in the list. I'm sure having every option and manufacture would be next to impossible any way.

One thing that I don't remember being asked is location of the vehicle... I'm sure that plays a huge key in a Co. that might be looking for a vehicle.

Thanks for setting this all up.

Hey Brandon,

Thanks for the response. The plan is to add some places to insert comments for modifications people have made.
There are a few tabs that need fixing. The front brakes and one in the front suspension. There are some spelling errors in the engine section that also need fixing.

The location of the vehicle is important for the manufacturers. That information will come from your personal profile. Even if people would prefer not to include a house address...at least a zip code is necessary for the database to work correctly for the manufacturers looking to test their products on vehicles.

A couple of tidbits that have not been mentioned yet. In the future, magazines and tech book publishers will be using the database as an avenue to find cars for projects and features. We've also been in touch with a producer who will be using the database to locate vehicles when he needs them for filming.

Thanks again,

Well started adding. It does need some open spots to allow adding custom notes, like my car is using a mix of parts AND parts from model specific builders, Kind of like my engine mounts are most likely coming from V8monza.com/Bob Gumm.
And lots of others might just be doing custom stuff, and a manufacturer MIGHT have info or want to help or even want help from the car builders experience.
Kind of like I have been working out my ignition and had one company call me on my idea, we are working along similar lines. They are working on stuff to work in air planes using car engines, so my idea works well as some older design engines distributors dont take high Gs well.
Anyway, will get up my other projects asap, doubt it helps me much but at least it populates the pool for now.

I started adding a couple today and have a question. Are you looking for how the car stands or what the plan is? For example, I have a 64 chevelle that has a I6 but I have a lq4 waiting to go in. How do you want to record that?

Also the differential tab doesn't have a gear ratios loaded.

Cool idea btw.

Hey Bobby,
Thanks for adding yoru car and for the questions. I'm looking for cars in the current state, but since you have the LQ4, go ahead and select "Chevrolet LS".

I'm going to change the "gear ratio" selection to a write-in box.

We've got quite a few nice cars from the Pro-Touring Site. Randy Johnson added his awesome Pro-Touring Camaro to TestCarDatabase. He also added his stock Chevy truck! Awesome! We need all kinds of cars and truck in various conditions. We're also looking for new cars and trucks too! :)

Something just doesn't smell right with this.

Hey Bonehead,

I'm not sure what you think doesn't smell right. But I can assure you that everything is on the straight and narrow. Obviously our sponsors (Comp Cams, Detroit Speed, Global West, Prothane, Pacific Fabrication, GM Sports Salvage, etc.) have known me for years and know they can trust me. Plus all my friends/family here at Pro-Touring.com (including Larry Callahan: Founder of Pro-Touring.com...this site that you just joined in the last day or two...and this is your second post) have supported me because they know they can trust me with their personal and vehicle information. I've been a member of this community for more that a couple of days and they know they can trust me. I've actually been part of Pro-Touring.com since its beginning and have been a devoted and trusted member of the performance aftermarket industry for more than 15 years.

But honestly, only sign up if you feel that it's right for you. If you don't, it will leave more chances for other people to take advantage of having their car selected to get sponsored parts by performing R&D for our sponsors and also winning performance parts in our future monthly giveaways.

What is the full list of "sponsors"?

What is the phone number for this business?

What hours are you available for a phone call?

Bonehead,

The full list of sponsors is on the "Our Sponsors" page: http://www.testcardatabase.com/portal/OurSponsors.aspx

Like most start-up and small web-based businesses, interested parties and members can email me at the email address located on the bottom of every page and on the "Contact Us" page of the website.

Like I mentioned before, only sign up if you feel that it's right for you. If not, I will completely understand.

I added my 91 z28 and my wife's Explorer, I'll add others later when I have more time.

I've got two questions on the interior section are you gonna add a seat covering type (leather, cloth, etc) I know there are many types of materials used so i didn't know if any of the cleaning supply suppliers is getting on board.

When I added my wife's car I didn't go thru every section, because the car is mostly stock. I did go thru the sections that were not OEM like tires, filter and so on. Will this hurt your data base or would you prefer us to go thru and select OEM for everything?

Ray,

Thanks for adding cars to the database. :)
You bring up some great questions. The interior material is something we should add. I'll add it to my list. It could open up additional sponsors and prizes to give away.

I go back and forth on the OEM selection when most of the car is OEM. It is a bit more selecting, but it would be best for the database if the OEM is selected on everything.

Thanks again for your support,

I couldn’t find Baer as a front break option or SSBC as a master. Also noticed there were no aftermarket TH400 transmissions to select. Is my TCI street fighter considered OEM? Maybe add a "custom" choose for valve covers

Thanks for adding your car and helping beta test! :)

The front brake tabs are not working correctly yet, but the rear brakes are. I added SSBC to the "Master" tab.

I originally added a bunch of transmissions, but then I realized that it's probably better if I only have basic transmissions in the current tab, then create a second tab that has the builder/manufacturer. This way I don't have so many entries in the original tab.

I also added "Custom" to the valve cover tab.

Dan,
Maybe put in a new mailbox with a 6" steel pole. A friend did that in front of his house because people used to drive across his lawn (his yard was on a curve in the road). After a while, it was covered with ivy. One night a car hit it and rolled over in the street. :woot:

We'll see what happens with parts to your house.

Hey TestCarDatabase members!

Thanks for all your help beta testing. We're almost ready to go to the next phase.

Please login to the site and fill in/update your contact information. In an attempt to serve TCD members that feel the need to withhold their mailing address, I have turned off the requirement of supplying your home address. You can supply it, but that part is voluntary. I still need your zipcode for the manufacturers to find your vehicle.

I need a valid email...that you check regularly. If you win a prize, I'll need to be able to contact you. If I don't get a response in a timely manner, I'll have to give the prize to another member. I have tried to email a few members so far and had no response. Don't lose out. :)

Thanks for your help!

Front Suspension - springs - add CCP

Also, technically Wegner Motorsports should be

Front Suspension - Steering Pump Brk - add Wegner Motorsports

Engine - pulleys - add Wegner Motorsports

Engine - valve covers - add Wegner Motorsports

I think that's it. I'll go through it again after I make some upgrades.
