Hi, I tried doin a search but I guess I suck or something cus I did'nt find what I was looking for.
Well, The question is, how wide a wheel can I fit in the front of my camaro? it's a 73 LT with the original A-arms and such. I only have the QA1 Coilovers, aswell as new poly bushings for the whole car.
I'm going for this kind of tires:

but I want to fit it inside the wheelwells. I could step up to 16" wheels if that makes a difference.

We have had the discussion on a forum in Sweden, of how wide a tire I could run in the back, They don't really know so I ask you guys, how wide before it hits on something? I have 295 on now, and I can't go more backspacing or it will hit the shocks, its on a 15x10" rim right now. any suggestions?

/Thanks

you should be able to run a 9 wide rim up front and a 10.5 inch rim in the back. 5 inches of back spacing in front, 6 in the rear. you may have to change your front upper control arms for clearance though.

you think I can modify the upper A arm maybe? lite box it and at the same time modify it for clerance?

I would like to get some more input on this subject plz.
I use stock subframe and stock a-arms. how wide rims and tyres can I run in front and back without it rubbing?

I want to get like NASCAR slicks because I want maximum grip in the bends :) what dimensions are rekomended?

Thanks

I think what we are going to find with this subject is like everything else... balance. While yes you can run a nascar tire in the front you will loose a lot of your steering. This is fine if your car is a strict track car but the second it's out on the street the lack of steering becomes slightly anoying.
As for the rear I am not a second gen guy so much but I bet the shocks will most likely limit the amount of back space you can get away with on a 15".

Im thinking of going up to a 16" rim just to get more backspacing. if anyone has tried it out with a 16" or a 15" front/rear please let me know how wide they could be. the lower shockmount is in the way now with a centerline 15" rim.

What do you mean with "loss of steering"? It will be on the streets like 99.999% of the time but I just LOVE the look of wide black slicks with the yellow lettering saying GOODYEAR :D

I might not put the widest possible wheel in front but I dont want the front wheels to look wimpy!

just remember to check available tire sizes for a 16" rim. the selection is very limited.

I used 16x10s for autocrossing my 79 Camaro with road race slicks front and rear. The tie rod end was the limiting factor for offset. John Berget has used road race slicks all sizes fro reasonable prices.

ok so 16x10s front and rear dont rub anywhere with stock a-arms and stock rear shockmounts?

what offset did you use?
