Just getting started on Chevelle 2.0, this will be a ground up build using lessons learned here and from personal experience. I will still have my 71 Chevelle as a daily/fun car.
You can check it out here- http://m.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1490158

Follow along, I'll be sure to update as I go.

I found this 72 Chevelle on Craigslist, it's a basket case but the body is very solid and mostly ready for paint. I have the build sheet with the car, it was orange flame, white vinyl top, white interior from the factory. It was sold locally in Texas where I live and has been here ever since.

Now I can prep the floor for lizard skin. Hope to have it done this weekend.

Looks like a solid car to start with...

I would really pay very careful attention to the driveline angles. You certainly made plenty of room for the actual transmission, but if you plan to lower the car, then you may want to think about raising the driveshaft tunnel 2-3 inches going all the way back. This will give you plenty of room to raise the back of the engine, which is what is required to maintain optimal u-joint operating angles.

I agree about raising the driveshaft tunnel. Now is the time to do it. Even if you don't need the extra clearance right now, it may prevent a giant headache in the future.

Being it's a 6L, you can also implement a 2 piece driveshaft with a carrier bearing in the middle. That seems so unconventional on a muscle car, but it's actually a simple and great way to have the best of both worlds. And yup, they make slip yoke style carrier bearings.

Thanks Blacklist..

The 71.... I built over the past 2 yrs. It did power tour after just three weeks on the road. So far I have almost 6000 miles on her. Daily drive it to work, LY6 cam only /T56 .. I love it.

I've been thru this already actually, used your thread as research on the cv type shaft, very cool parts. I just can't bring myself to spend $1400 on a drive shaft. My 71 is on 2 inch drop springs and has 3.5 inch drive shaft and clears the body if it bottoms out ... Just not by much.

I decided to leave the blower/vent hole exposed. I like routing my ac/heater lines for the vintage air thru the fender. I still need to do some more work to clean things up but needed every thing in self etch primer to prevent rust.

Cleaned up what little surface rust I could find on the floor pans and sprayed some primer.

Picked up a parts car to rob the front end from. The dash has no cracks and fits perfect. The story I got was that the car was garaged up until 4 years ago. Some purists may not approve but I love the 70 front end!

Started tearing down the 70 for its parts. I'm impressed at the factory panel fit.

I'm either going to put my 72 front clip and sell the 70 or part it out. Just not sure yet. Here are a few pics of the car.

I don't think the wife will be happy but I found a place to keep the 70 front clip. It's in good shape. Just a little rust on the bottom of the passenger fender. I lower patch should take of it.

Starting to collect parts now that the holidays are over.

Drum spindles and hubs from a friends el camino, C5 brakes and wheels. I don't plan to keep the wheels.
