So I am wrapping up the rear suspension on my '70 LeMans and adding the Viking Shock which I got through UMI. Everything is going fine except the bottom connection needs a spacer to properly mount up to the shock mount on the axle. When I go and add the spacer it looks like its pushing the shock too far out. I am afraid the top end doesn't have enough room for flex to accomidate the spacer.
Any guidence/advice would be greatly appriciated.
Do I just need a smaller spacer? I'm still worried it will put too much strain on the top of the shock.
Thanks,
John

That should be fine.

where is your original shock mount bolt? It usually bolts on to the axle and has a built in spacer, and acts as a stud with a nut and washer to hold the shock on.

This is correct, this is what you need. Or the spacer above and a bolt will work just fine. NAPA and other Autopart stores carry these too, sometimes even in their "Help" sections. Hope that helps,

This is how it looks like it will be if I use the spacer (red line), is that angle safe for the top mount, it doesn't look to have enough movement. Also it looks like if I use a spacer the lower mount won't bolt up flat up against the lower shock mount on the rear axle tube.

Hey John.
That angle is fine. Like Ryan mentioned, we used a stud from the Help! section at the local auto parts. Our previous shocks were Bilstein with the integral stud and have a smaller body diameter.
Any time we use a large body diameter shock in this application it's at a slight angle.

My Varishocks are the same way. Like Ramey said, you will be fine.

Pinion angle would change the required spacer thickness.

why don't you just put a small shim on the upper mount on one side to create a top angle
