So..... I found myself with an extra  Ricks first gen tank. I had already proto-typed the exhaust corner clips as well as the corner clips for the shackles when you mini-tub. Next obvious step was to install one of Carl's Retroworx http://www.vaporworx.com/ kits. The scariest part about installing the kit was carving one big azz hole in the top of my nice shiny expensive stainless tank. A 4 inch angle grinder and 5 minutes and the old was gone and ready for the new tray.

Obviously the attempt at creating a fuel "bucket" had to go too. It never worked anyways.

While your in there everyone should take advantage of the opportunity to add a few gallons of capacity to their tank. The fill spout comes about 1-1.5 inches down into the tank creating a false fill level in the tank and surrendering a few gallons in the process.

The only tricky part of welding the new tray in is the corners on the radiused front edge. The following pictures show how I did it.

The installed tray:
I'm not the best TIG welder in the world but I did pressure test it to 10psi (the point at which the tank begins to bulge) and there were zero leaks first time. I was very happy with that :)

All done with the wiring harness and everything. It's currently set-up to run either a first gen sender or a fifth gen sender.
