      Shield / Shielded wire

Any specific wire used? Standard single strand? Can it be omitted & the 2 fuel pump wires put in a shielded sleeve? For an LT1 fuel pump module. Factory wiring diagram has the shielded wire going directly into the module. It terminates in the loom via blunt cut per diagram. I am making the harness & looking to see what exactly is needed.

The shielding would be helpful if your running a pwm fuel pump driver; if not, it seems a properly sized, unshielded wire would be sufficient. I have PWM control of my fuel pump so I used a 10-gauge, coax cable for my pump wiring to prevent the PWM frequency from "leaking" into other circuits (mostly concerned about noises in the audio system). You can also buy braided shielding in various diameters from a company called Electriduct; this can be used to cover a normal wire or wires which accomplishes the same thing.

At almost 1/2" diameter, the coax cable is bulky and hard to make sharp turns. It has a hard PE plastic sheath so it can be run under the car without worries, just keep it a reasonable distance from the exhaust system as it's only rated to 85˚C (185˚F). Both approaches need the shield wire to be grounded at one end of the cable run to be effective.

I have never used coaxial cable for a pwm controlled fuel pump in several builds. It seems a little like overkill. If you’re really worried about radiated emissions from the fuel pump wiring you could use twisted pair for the power and ground feeds to the fuel pump.

I would have guessed conducted emissions from the fuel pump are a bigger concern but I’m getting rusty in my old age….

Have some shielding loom coming. The pwm module supplies the shielding wire/ circuit which I wrapped around the pump's twisted power & ground. Only other components' wires in the wire group are the ethanol sensor & fuel gauge.
