I like the direction your heading, one question though, are those 3d printed parts strong enough to actually use?

We built entire robots out of the plastic parts made by these printers. Some printers are even capable of printing in titanium! They parts are more than strong enough for most appilcations.

Great thread man! I have several friends who drive tuned imports, mainly nissans, and there has been several cases where I have taken inspration and ideas from some of their rides for my Corvair. I'm defintely subscribed!

      Its been a busy month.

Recently picked this little one and she has kept me super busy. Shes a Shiba Inu pup, and will get to be about 20 pounds when fully grown.

When we first got her. (the end of march)

and today (they grow up so fast lol)

I Also did some house tuning. In october I bought my first house (detached bungalow) in toronto's west end. The houses in this area were originally built as cottages so they are quite small and dated on the inside.

My Girlfriend is an interior designer so there are always little projects to do. Our house has a little loft/ storage area above the bed rooms which used to be accessed by a wooden ladder. In an attempt to modernize it we had a permanent ladder made and attached it to the wall and also added a small "railing" to pretty up the space. Its not to code but is better than not having anything there, as it was before.

      here is a quick collage

      On to the car!

I know ive gone on about the rb20/25 back and forth but recently I settled on an RB20det. While I am down .5l of displacement, they are cheaper, rev nicer, are lighter and i dont plan on making much more than 300-350hp. Not to mention the deal was just too good to pass up

My Good friend Oliver was building this Z

He posted a part out thread and wanted $400 for the motor which was refreshed and included, new timing belt, tensioner, rear main seal and new accessories such as alternator. It also has a rear sump pan because it was going into the Z ( I will have to use my old one). But for $700 it included ECU, Harness, MAFS and a Forward Facing Plenum. This was the deal maker, because they are expensive new and i really didnt want to have 4857439878324 miles of piping as the standard intake manifold crosses the valve covers to pipe air from the turbo-intercooler to the intake manifold.

Anyways Here are some of the trendy pics from the FS Ad

With the new house and all the work i want to do there, the rb25 build would have taken lots longer. This way i get the car back up and running again sooner and have more money for an upgraded turbo, injectors and other things.

      thanks for reading

I ran this part as a prototype as we are getting a CNC router next week at work and i will be making it out of aluminum. Our machine cures with UV light meaning the parts will become brittle over time. We are also getting an FDM printer which prints in an ABS like material. These parts are more durable and use the same process as the gun that was printed a few weeks back in texas (of all places )

Awhile ago I printed this for my HKS Turbo timer with one of our printers at work. And recently got around to fixing it to my vent surround/ under steering wheel trim piece for my R32.

I am trying to source a spray which will give it the OEM Textured finish. I know SEM makes a product but its hard to track down in toronto.

Here is a quick mock up for my Boost/ Water temp gauge holders I made recently. I most likely will make the holder one piece when i produce it out of aluminum.

This is a phenomenal build. Those R32s have really grown on me- and like others have said, it's different. Nice to see some 3D printing put to use. I'm hoping to do something similar with side marker housings for an LED setup.

Hey Thanks! Its taking a while because the chassis is still at my parents in the container and the motor and other parts are with me in toronto.

but I did a quick coat with Rockerguard. Its flexible and paintable so we will see how that goes. It came out looking pretty close to OEM.

Its a little glossy in the picture because the paint was a bit tacky

Excuse the poor photo quality but started making a scale replica of my car over the winter. Now it is warm and sunny out I can work on the real deal.

3D Printed areo for my Tamiya model kit.

Now the car is getting the new rad support welded in and the nasty rear dent/ scuff repaired. Hopefully the car will be back in Toronto by the end of the month

I am working on a centre console for my friends V8 powered FC RX-7. Will most likely post it up when its done.

Great build. Its nice to see something different. Skylines are just bad ass.
That intake manifold is awesome. Do you have any more shots of it?

      Great build.
Do you plan on getting out to Cayuga (Toronto Motorsports Park) when the car is done?
Does your friend with the V8 RX get out there.
I saw s guy there a few years ago with a black one that had an LS1, it was very fast.

      Thanks Keith,

I havent driven my car at Cayuga, Ive gone to a test and tune drag night there with my 240 way back when i was in collage but thats about it. We normally head out to shannonville for trackdays but it would be super nice to try something like mosport that has elevation changes once the car is complete. My friend is still in the process of building the RX-7, He competes in DMCC (which is mostly in quebec) so he is focusing more on is racecar at the moment (LS Powered Nissan 240sx). The RX-7 will be his street car once its completed, which should be soon.

Hokey So, made the trek to my parents house over the weekend to get things ready for it to my to my friends (autobody mechanic) for some dent repair and a new rad support. While I cleaned the engine bay and removed the 20yr old dried out wiring harness mounts most of the weekend was spent putting my interior back together. Over the past 6 months I had been searching and collecting quite rare "period correct" black/ Amber HKS gauges. Most of the time searching on Yahoo Auctions Japan (Think Ebay but in Japanese and with way too many bright colours). I was able to track down all the ones i needed and was eager to test fit them in the car.

As i am an industrial designer by trade, I tend to over think small details like this. I was really against drilling into the dash to mount my gauges because A) I think it is tacky B) Because it is nearly impossible to get another dash. The option of mounting them in the A pillar was out too because It looks even worse (my opinion) and its annoying to constantly have bright lights in my field of vision.

A few months ago I prototyped this column mount pod on our 3d Printer. I liked the way it fit in the car and was made the gauges easy to read without being distracting.

Was able to buzz a couple out on our new CNC Router Machine with some scrap textured polycarbonate we had lying around

Went to Home Depot and picked up some "L" Corner Brackets and mocked everything up with an older broken gauge I had kicking around the shed.

      Here are the finished products:

Two 60 mm Gauges on the column (boost and water temp) and 3 42mm Gauges in the center "Din" pocket. (Oil temp, Oil Pressure, Exhaust Temp.)

I also Mounted the Turbo timer I made up last week:

I am absolutely stoked on how the gauges look. From the drivers seat it gives the feeling of a fighter jet :D

More updates to come, Thanks for Reading

Its been a busy couple of weeks.

I left the car is the above depressive state last time I worked on it. I had removed the old bent rad support and picked up a fresh (used) one from a local importers. My good friend from highschool, who is a bodyman by trade agreed to help with the re-assembly as i had no idea what i was doing. Turned out it was pretty straight forward ( Drill out old spot welds, clamp in place and weld it up. )

      Here it is clamped up

      Welded it up

      and hood fenders re-installed.

It was a huge motivator having it looking like a car again. It was even a bigger motivator attending skymeet (my car should be there next year) which is north americas biggest skyline meetup. there were over 50 cars of all different years and models as well as prizes and awards for many different categories. I spoke before that these cars are "supposed to be modified" and this meetup just drove this point home. Ill let the pictures do the talking...

Take note of the Differential cooler...

Lots of nice vanity plates too

Some of the cars drew more attention than others. This particular example was sporting almost 700hp to the wheels

      Tribute to the SRT badges

The next project to tackle on the list is to get rid of the 4 wheels steering (Hicas) which was prevalent on many japanese cars in the early 90's. The car currently has a lock out bar to make it more stable and predictable on the track. I wanted to replace all the rear bushings and and tie rods to get of the old 20 year rubber. I got a rude awakening when I priced out a set of replacement inner and outer rear tie rods, they are a specialty item and cost almost $800 for a complete set.

swapping an a 89-93 Nissan 240sx rear subframe ($100 with all suspension arms at a junkyard) and $200 Energy suspension master bushing kit. Sounds like a better plan than to me. It gets rid of the complicated steering system, I get to delete all the lines running to the back of the car, 240sx aftermarket suspension arms are cheaper and more readily available and saves me $500 vs the OEM skyline parts.

I have the bushing kit ordered through fleabay and am going to try and grab a subframe tomorrow.

      Cheers

Ugly dent in the front driver side corner fixed and primed

Uglier dent in the passenger rear quarter fixed and primed.

      Paint tonight, cant wait

this came in to work on friday. I had requested a sample set of circular Tyco connectors for a "prototype" and this showed up.

Eventual plans are to re-locate the battery and fuse boxes in the rear seat delete, neaten up/ simplify the wiring a bit and run a quick connect for the motor harness.

I have the rear seat section from a 2 seater FC RX-7 (shown above) and plan to incorporate that with something similar to my friend franks rear seat delete:

So far this is where I am :(

FINALLY got my car to my house and have been busy doing many little things here and there. I bought a rust free non hicas S13 subframe and have begun the awful task of replacing all the bushings with Polyurathane units from Energy Suspension. I eventually plan on getting all adjustable arms but dont have to resources at the moment so stock arms with new bushings will suffice for now.

The rear dent came out better than I thought. So happy to have the car dent free.

and with a new R32 Rad Support

Dont mind the empty bay, Ive been plugging away at the motor as well, Maintenance things such as new gaskets, seals, thermostat and press in -10 fittings for my catch can setup. Just need to order up a new waterpump and i'm good to go.

Going to keep it pretty standard for now and upgrade turbo and injectors later down the road.

I also stripped off the brown paint from the cam covers as it wouldn't cut it for a super 90's build. Instead I made some decals in adobe Illustrator and had them cut in low tack vinyl

I spent about a week making sure the paint cured properly in between the different layers. I am absolutely stoked with the outcome.
I did it one at a time incase it didnt work out, but will post a picture of them on the motor as soon as it has cured.

      (sorry for the Iphone pic)

Quick Snap of the interior/ Gauge Setup

Put the aero back on my car to boost motivation.

It just needs a motor in to get rid of the ugly rear rake.

Got the day off tomorrow for more painting and rear subframe work. Before I go heres some more 3d printer pron

      Cheers
