Stopping place on the exhaust. Need the gas tank in before I decide how to finish this out. Had to cheat on the H pipe and MIG weld it. Took about 4 hours just fitting that one pipe.

Look on youtube for tutorials how to notch the pipe manually.

Oh I did a lot of manual shaping. The tool I ordered was overstated in it's ability to handle 2.5" pipe. Happy with the end result, just wish the fit had be tight enough to tig. I'll *probably* never need to do it again.

Hard to believe how much the scope of work has change on this car in the last decade.

Was asked by the spouse if, you know, since the cars out for paint you're going to finish the truck? "It's still visible from the road..."

Not a lot of enthusiasm right now but here goes...

Not nearly as much work by a long shot, I just never quite decided what to do here so I'll get it back running, do a 3/5 drop and see where it goes.

Waiting on refurbished quarter windows and then she's looking for a home... Would like to keep this one but I have too many cars at the moment.

Stopped by the paint shop the other day and they had hood/trunk/fenders stripped on the Impala. Next step is pulling the body.

Still looking for a color. I just saw BMW Blue Ridge Mountain Metallic this week and that might be a front runner.

Not much of an update but I may have picked a color. Not something quite in the range people who know me would expect but the more I look at it, the more I like it. One of our QC engineers has a spouse that works for BMW and she drove his sedan to work the last couple of days so I've had a chance to see the car in full sun, overcast, etc. BMW Blue Ridge Mountain Metallic.

Yup, that will look real sharp on that big Impala! Have you settled on a top color yet? That might look really sharp with a Navy Blue top.

I like the color because it's understated and there will be a lot of it but I really am back and forth between going with a brighter, deeper blue like the current Silverado color. Almost definitely keeping a black top but will be done in fabric instead of the factory vinyl.
Current state is doors/hood/fenders stripped, waiting for the body to come off.

I think we're final on the rendering and it helped me make a few decisions about the trim.

So waiting around for paint...fun. I have the 1/4 windows on the way back for the C10 so it will be for sale soon and the rear chassis reinforcement kit for the E46. Needed to pull some focus back to the Impala so I started in on the new wiper switch this morning.
Plan A was an ABS panel and mount the new switch. My added mount post worked out so I cut a piece of ABS and screwed it in.Name: dash4.jpg

Great, I thought until I turned it over and saw the 1/4" gap. It's hard to see in the picture.

I spent a little while figuring on how thick the build up was going to have to be while I was looking for the old wiper switch. It was basically a stamped bracket. Then I realized "I have a metal brake." Going to use as plan B.

Also decided to do something about the 50 year old ash tray. Will probably bead blast the inside, paint, and line with something that makes it storage. Also cutting off those cigarette holders to make it useable.

You can add a USB charging port to the ashtray.

Moving at a glacial pace these days waiting around the paint jail. Mostly I just lurk.
Had a piece of the puzzle show up yesterday. Took their time but I should be happy with it.

      Nothing to take pictures of....

Dropped off new mirrors, emblems, and door handles at the paint shop last week. Body was off the very pristine frame and in the media blasting shop. Will be interesting to see what comes back.

I may motivate to take pictures of my new daily driver. Took delivery of a Tesla Model 3 performance over the weekend. Wow it's fast. Puts my previous M6 to shame from a standing start.
