      I don't know.... I guess I was doing "Pro-Touring" before Pro-Touring even became a thing...

Back in 1992, I swapped in a TH700R4, then in 1995, I swapped TPI onto my car. Then after I saw ZR1 wheels on Mark Steilow's '69 Camaro, I had to have those wheels too. So in 1998, I put in the 1996 LT4 Vette wheels along with upgrading the rear brakes to disc. Also had the AGR 12:1 box and other suspension upgrades.

I've always liked the feel of having modern driving characterstics, but still the look and feel of a classic muscle car.

Nothing more fun than an ancient thread with new life.

Most people can't even identify what our Maverick even is. lol... PT or not.

I understand what the OP is saying. My issue is pricing, everything has gotten so expensive. I think of the hotrod community like the chopper community. Guys trying to make their cars go faster without much money. I realize I am talking about hot rodding and not pro-touring, but they are both similar to me. Guys would gut their cars to make them faster, take out the AC and anything else that wasn't tied down to make them faster. That grass roots build is gone by the wayside, it still exists but not much anymore, mostly because a basket case car to start with is $10,000.00 Now we are seeing $250K restomods and protouring cars, which to me is insane. This has become an expensive hobby, which I think is a bit of a shame. I would also like to see other cars on this site other than camaros, even mustangs arent posted very often. But I do love protouring cars and even more so when some is building something a bit out of the norm.

I'd love to add a pro-touring 67 Fastback Mustang, but I would want all the same parts my pro-touring 69 Camaro has on it, which A) too expensive now B) I think the catalog for Camaros is much better than the Mustang last time I looked. either way, I wouldn't want to build up another or buy a completed car now. way too much $$$$$. You are 100% correct in saying its insane.

What bugs me about it - you watch someone build a car here for years, then about a week after they say it's done the car appears in the classified section, almost like their entire thread was really a marketing exercise. Their car their choice of course, but it still bugs me that I get involved in someone else's build and it turns out to be nothing more than a multi-year ad for a car lot.

When mine is done (IF it's ever done) it will never be for sale. I'll be driving it until the end of time.

Think the problem is that some people are relying on others to guide their path. It usually ends in resentment, too much time, and too much money spent with an end being someone else's image of the perfect car.. Or it's a mash up of catalog of parts that leads to temperamental tunes, bad driving, harsh ride, etc. I've seen too much money invested up front with not enough out the back end to complete it correctly, corners cut, etc..

I put together a fun car with an equal mix of new, used, and junkyard parts to keep it within a reasonable budget. Started with a cheap 4 door and went from there. Yes it's not the best, it's heavier than most pro-touring, people with jorts and new balances turn their nose up to the extra doors, etc. Sometimes you have to set your sights on obtainable goals instead of shooting for a magazine spread / Autotopia LA fame.

Its nice to know there is balance in the universe. Every time I take my Mach 1 out, someone says "I used to have a Camaro just like that"

I know where you're coming from, those builds are everywhere now. However seeing one of them in person never gets old. Just can't beat the body lines and stance.

My gripe is with seeing full blown race car builds passing themselves off as pro touring cars. Once you have a fast and furious spoiler, extremely modified body panels, moving the firewall inward, and other types of extreme modifications - that is not pro touring, that is a race car. Totally loses the essence of what pro touring is. Looks kinda dorky showing up to a goodguys autocross in a car that doesn't have an ounce of OEM left.

Well, it might not be "ProTouring" but I am finally finishing up my 1964 C20 Restoratmod 'Shop Truck' named STEEVE, which remained 8-lug.

Next is a 1973 Pontiac Firebird, but will be using PTFB GENII products (but will have a carbureted LS3, CPT -Art Carr 200-4R, and SE Dana S60).

It would be so much easier just buying a completed catalog car! LOL
