I may try to make it this year. I've always lived in Mississippi and have never been. I just wished I had my lightning running so I wouldn't have to take the family car.

I've made it every year but the first two, wouldnt miss it.

ADVISE IF YOURE LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO STAY - we stayed numerous places over the years, and settled on a little hotel called the Star Light Inn for a number of years because they let us park the 5th Wheel camper in their lot as well. 2-3 years ago they sold out early, so we went looking for a new place. On a whim, I looked for Condo rentals on the net which turned up a great find.

We now rent 2-3 condos (basically 2 story apartment townhomes) side by side. They rent by the week, but cost less than we were spending at the little hotel for just 3-4 days. The bonus is you get two bedrooms, living room, kitchen, washer and dryer, etc etc. which cuts down on other costs. The name of ours escapes me right now, but its located next to the Star Light Inn on the main beach drag.

When I found it, there were plenty of other condos on the coast available in the same price range.

Any tips for a first timer? We aren't taking a car to show, just seeing the event. Decided to stay at one of the casino hotels on the beach.
The event seems really spread out. Where are the best hang-out spots or best vendor areas?
Do we try to walk around? Hop in the car and drive around?

      Thanks!
      Jeff-

Biloxi if u like bumper to bumper traffic. We like ocean springs on sat and Sunday. Depends on which casino you stay. But cars are everywhere

The event gets bigger and bigger every year - the crowd starts picking up on Thursday and gets heavier Friday and Saturday. We go down pretty early in the week, and my plan is to hit Bay St Louis on Thursday late afternoon if they are having a special event like last year, and Ocean Springs on Friday. These are the best two spots and are at the extreme ends of CTC, so traffic getting back gets tough on the weekend. We will hit the Mall a couple times, including Saturday when we will also go to the Auction/Swap meet area at the Coliseum - these two are somewhat centrally located. Cars will be everywhere you go, but Id say the best places to see them is the Coliseum and the Registration point.

You can find maps for all these things on the CTC website. Your car has to be 25 years old or older, and its worth EVERY DIME to register if your car qualifies.

We will probably run to the drag strip on Fri or Sat night, probably on Sat. Its run kind of like a test and tune night, so you can make a pass or just watch. They will run WAY WAY into the night/morning on Sat. night.

Suggestion - If you are going from one extreme end of CTC to the other, your best bet is to run back up to I-10 where you can move quickly. Also, take your GPS, for some reason not many people look for back ways around traffic, so you can sometimes make pretty good time with a decent GPS. (watch out for the Air Force Base blocking your way on some roads)

We stay near the intersection where they were the worse a few years back, but they have cooled down the past couple of years. Unfortunately a child was hit and killed near that same intersection just before we arrived last year (his parent ran across beach highway and the young kid took off after him, it wasnt the drivers fault) - even so, the cops were much better than a couple years back.

Leaving in about a hour staying till Sunday wed-Thursday is the best you get to drive and enjoy the coast with out the big crowds. Ocean springs on Sunday is the best set up. Maybe next year I can talk the local SCCA club to help out on a event, may be a cruise to NOLA for auto cross and back to Biloxi.

Glad to see some PTers down in my neck of the woods. I live in North Gautier (to the East of Ocean Springs) if you see the Green Machine rolling around give me a honk!

If the weather is nice I will be at the Gulfport drag strip on Saturday night to watch people make runs.
