Chrome vinyl wrap

Been working on my fathers '55 lately getting his custom front bumper finished. It was pretty far gone to begin with so we used body filler to finish it up after welding it together, but that prevented us from being able to chrome it. We tried a bunch to the "chrome" spray paints... Not even close to chrome. We came across this chrome wrap from Alsa... Very impressed so far, and its not crazy expensive.
Took about 2 hours to get this far with 3 people...


Then I ripped it Oh well, it was good practice. We paid $11 per square foot, 10ft x 1ft was plenty to do a bumper in. Im really impressed with how real it looks.



BTW... Im not affiliated with the company, I just think its a really cool product that actually looks like it does in the pictures on their website!

What about road wear, rock chips?? Can it handle that?

What about road wear, rock chips?? Can it handle that?

I would say it is as "fragile" as the paint on the car... A rock that would chip your paint will probably put a nick in the wrap. I dont know much about it so Im curious as well how it will hold up against the elements ie: hot, cold, freezing, rain, sun exposure, etc... This car will be a good test of its durability since it does get driven quite a bit

Finished... If you didnt know it wasnt real chrome you probably wouldnt look twice, but if you do look up close it is noticeable that its not 100%

Can't tell by looking at it in this picture! That looks like a GREAT product, and even for INTERIOR chrome projects, too (dash bezels, etc.)! Have to look up that site, to order, now!

this is awesome! I've been trying to figure out a way to use fiberglass bumpers to drop some weight on my galaxie. obviously , all of the "chrome" spray paints are awful. i was dumbfounded with attempting to retain the "feel" of the style lines on the galaxie, but in silver. Now I think I'll give this a shot.

Holding up pretty well... plenty of highway driving with no rock chips so far. there are a few spots that seem like they are "dulling" a bit but you would still have to be told its not chrome. The car is far from a garage queen so it sees its fair share of sun and the elements.

I want it for a glass bumper. Do you use a heat gun to stretch it and get it to laydown smooth? Didn't know you could get it in those lengths, last I looked at it you could only get 60"x12" rolls. That is awesome.

You can use heat but some don't need it. A hair drier or HF heat gun is enough. You can also use flame but unless you are use to it you will ruin things. They even have air egress so bubbles are drastically less likely. They also tend to be pressure sensitive so you can move it around a little before pushing down for good. It isn't a very hard thing to do but you will make mistakes at first.

I hate doing wraps but really like the idea of using this stuff to cover once chrome parts or to make fiber parts look like chrome.
