Fix for wilwood internal parking brake

For anyone out there using the 12.19" rear wilwood discs with the internal parking brake with Lokar cables there is a fix. Mine never really grabbed well enough, even on a very slight incline. if I pushed down on the pedal hard enough to finally stop the cables would snap. I repaired the cables a few times, but the effort to engage the brake seemed too high. I looked into it and realized that some extra leverage would help. There is enough room to extend the mounting bracket at the rear end where the cables attach to gain leverage. I fabbed up some brackets out of 1/8" stock and now the parking brake engages easily and grabs like it should. It is finally useful! I will post some pics if there is any interest.

I had the backing plates removed because I had to swap wheel studs, but the work could be done with them on the car. I had to drill one 1/4" hole in the wilwood "lever"- where the cables originally attach. Each extension is held on with two 1/4" grade 8 bolts. One engages the original cable mount, the other is drilled through the existing lever and screws into a tapped hole in the extension. Moving it actually helped the cable geometry a bit.

Interesting. I have the same problem with the Wilwood ebrake. I have tried adjusting the cable to no avail. I wonder if this is truly the culprit. Would you be willing to share/sell the template for the brackets? I'm sure that there are more than a few of us that could use it.

Sure- I would be willing to sell the template. I traced the bracket on a piece of paper, and I could just make copies. Its east enough to cut out of steel, I used only a bench grinder and a 4-1/2" angle grinder with a cutoff wheel. Send me a SASE and 5 bucks for my time and I would be happy to send it to you or whoever needs it. (Hope i'm not breaking any rules here by doing that) P.M. me if you are interested.

Glad you got the fix figured out. I have heard about these issues. You would think that for the premium money paid for this system you would get a product that was engineered properly out of the box?? Have you called Wilwood and complained at all?

I emailed it to both of you - I hope it works for you as well as it did for my brakes.

Not trying to take a sale away from the OP, (and the fact that the thread is 12 yrs old) but he seems to be doing it as a favor and not as a business, so just trace them off of your computer screen from post 3. You should be able to estimate the actual size pretty easily.
