New Product from II Much Fabrication: FabBoss (now in 1/4-20 and 10-24)

FabBosses are ideal for mounting electronic boxes, interior panels, fluid reservoirs, cable and plumbing runs, linkage bases, ground points, etc. They are mild steel, with a wall thickness of .060, so MIG welding to sheet metal is a quick operation. They can also be easily trimmed for welding to irregular surfaces, or notched for mounting to tube.

Using FabBosses minimizes the aesthetic problem of protruding bolts or sheet metal screws, and eliminates that old problem of stripped sheet metal screw holes. It also speeds up the fabrication process in another way: bolt the device to a FabBoss, position it in place, and tack weld. Getting your MIG torch into tight places is always easier than a drill.

One other feature is that the face has a rolled radius so they can be left visible in interior panels.

Watch our blog (see signature)… I’ll be using them all over the place as our Unfair Project goes into high gear.

We’ve got them in stock at $7.50 apiece. For the time being, email me at [email protected]. A new web store is coming soon.

Here's some pre-production FabBosses in action:

OD and length please. I have spent so much time making stupid stuff like this it's not funny.

Any chance of getting some without threaded holes or with an 1/8" pilot so I could make them whatever thread I wanted?

They are 0.75" diameter, 1.25" long.

My current stock is 1/4 - 20. I gotta admit, it never occurred to us to make blank or pilot-hole versions. I'll put that in the "good idea" category as we build our part number inventory.

Think #10-32 too jp. That's the most common size for cushioned clamps used for fuel lines, hoses, etc.

      Sometimes it's the simple things......

I made some out of 1/2" stock with a 1/4"-20 for brake and fuel lines works great. It beats laying on your back and drilling and tapping holes.

Thanks all. I've responded to all the emails so far.

Carl, I know what clamps you're talking about. 10-32 (would 10-24 be ok?) will go on the "good idea" list.

      great idea!

Where was this post 2 weeks ago...

I would have bought 22-25 of them for this truck. We just finished all the wiring and these would have been perfect, and saved me hours of time.

There is a market for these in off-road as well. I see about 10 seconds with a burr king and they can fit any tube possible. Talk about a time reducer.

      Very good idea II Much!

Ten seconds might be a bit of a stretch, but yes, they are a great time saver. I think top-end fab shops should keep 30-40 on the shelf.

Beautiful. I'll probably need 20-30 of these in the next few months. Nice, simple solution to a common problem.

What is that relay looking thing you have wired directly next to your maxi-fuses? Any chance you'll make your brackets for the isis modules available?

The "relay thing" is the 50A fuse used for the ISIS inMotion controller. It doesn't use the maxi-fuse like the other ISIS boxes.

One more nice thing about FabBosses is that they lend themselves to simple and elegant brackets, like the ISIS bracket you see in the picture. I won't disclose any future plans but we do have several ideas coming to market. Please keep an eye on the II Much Fabrication blog, where those product announcements will happen first.

After some thought I would like an 1/8" pilot version for sure. Then I would always have the right size.

Those look great John. Will definitely have to get a few. Any chance of having discounts on larger amounts. Maybe a 10 pack or 25 pack price?

FWIW guys, I just ordered 30 of these. I must be a top-end fab shop, cause that's what I figure I'll need just to get all my ISIS stuff mounted, plus a few for my inevitable screw-ups.

I imagine once i get some more time and funds together to re-tackle my fuel system, I'll order at least a dozen more.

Either is fine jp. It's no fun trying to drill out the thin clamp legs out to 1/4".

I hear ya. I was talking to my business partner (John Ulaszek) about that exact problem today.

My inclination would be for 10-24, rather than 10-32, just to keep the products consistent. More to come, for sure.
