      Retrotek

Does anyone know if Retrotek discontinued their push button shifter?

For my future project I was thinking about doing the Shrifter with the Retrotek push button to get rid of the floor shifter. Have a custom center console built. But I haven't been able to find anything on the push button. It's not on their website or anything.

I just received an email from Retrotek saying that they no longer manufacture or sell the Smart Shift system.

I haven't checked on that one. I did receive an email from Master Shift and they are still carrying their push button shifter. So that was good news.

For safety reasons, it's a very difficult product to make work in aftermarket applications. A new Jaguar has shift by wire, but every car rolls off the assembly line at or close to the same spec. Furthermore, Jaguar and other OE manufacturers instill multiple redundant safety measures to make sure that the device does not land in a wrong gear. As your hot rod is different than my hot rod, the shift by wire concept gets lost in translation. The result is a clunky and potentially dangerous solution.

Better to craft some sort of subtle, but human manual lever and cable system. We have customers who build upside down levers that tuck under the dash--similar to a modern hood release. Other simply cut down column shifter stalks and paint them the same color as the column so that they disappear. For his last build lil' John Buttera built a simple, but elegant lever that tucked between the driver's seat and console.

PRNDL is a safety critical function. Go for a mechanical solution with good ol' human interface.

Thanks for your interest in the Shrifter®

Thanks for the info. I watched Inside West Coast Customs last night and they used the Master Shift push button shifter on Will.I.Am's '58 Corvette. Looked pretty cool.

      New product !

There is a new system coming from PCS.
It can work together with a paddle shifter.
      Anyone know more of this?

Does anyone in the US or Canada have a Retrotek system that they want to sell? I need parts.

      Thanks!

It's not a push-button, but Dodge does have their knob-style shifter so it's different, and can be put anywhere. As far as I know it's interchangeable with their T-handle shifter so it should just be a switch with no internal programming. Might be worth looking into if the actual push-button shifter isn't available anymore. Jaguar uses a similar one, so it's likely a plug and play on a ZF transmission provided the donor uses the same transmission, would probably need some help working with any non-ZF units.
