      Air filter input

      I need some help with a air filter idea
      I want to cut the back of the shaker on my trans am and
      Screen it with foam but I dont know how good a foam
      Filter is

      Foam filters are ok as long as you don't live in a high dust area.

      how long do they tend to last because my plan is to have this be
      my main filter and do away with the paper filter inside the shaker

      Depending on the environment you can get a few years out of foam. Just rinse it every few thousand miles of driving, make it part of your oil change routine. Make sure however it's installed it isn't pulled tight. Filtration foam has comparatively large pores to start with and if you pull it tight you actually open them up some more.
