I would have to turn the boost up to 20psi to make 800hp... IM not ready to do that yet...

15psi will make about 715hp with my current setup.. (420 NA)

What kind of a deal can you get me on a procharger pulley? I need a 4.5 inch driven pulley to make 15psi

Here is an interesting thread from Supraforums re: Ebay intercoolers. It's 30 pages long but interesting. I looked on ebay for kicks and there are alot of options. There really is no reason an intercooler should be that much more expensive than an aluminum radiator that we can buy all day long for 200.00

I have a Spearco air to water intercooler but if I was looking air to air I would at least consider these. What your feelings are on cheap foreign labor is a different question

Being such a long thread it's difficult to boil it down, but basically there are some on that forum that thought because the cost was so low (in the 200 to 300 range) that they must be junk. They are a bar and plate design.

Their only issue was making up pipes, but that is a given for any type of custom application. The Supra guys are just used to having piping kits made already.

Hey all. I am currently a Mech Eng co-op student at a company that strictly designs automotive coolers. Ranging from charged air coolers, rads, transmission oil coolers, oil coolers, and loads of other things. At first I was gonna get my company to custom make me an I/C. However, I don't really want to hassle the guys on the shop floor, but I did notice this add on ebay. I went to my desk and ran some CFD tests. CFD is basically taking the parameters of the cooler and CAD drawings, and planting them in this program. The price seemed TOO good, so I had to double check. The program crunches the numbers for about 6 hours, then spits out your final results and stresses. The final outputs looked VERY decent. With efficiency of 70-85%, which is hypothetical but QUITE accurate (I've seen prototype I/C's at 98% efficiency!!). After looking at some different CAD drawings for different vehicles, I think the channel turbulizers are the same as the Maybach I/C, which suggests good design. The price seems rather cheap because most I/C's need to be brazed, which is basically superheating the cooler in a nitrogen capsule. This is a very expensive process but prevents any leaks from occuring. As well, although there will be significant bypass due to the placement of the two hose nipples, the program shows that due to the density of the channel turbulizers, the air cannot all move through the lower end of the cooler. Which means a significant amount will flow through the upper portion of the cooler. I have STRONG faith in the CFD program, and am going to definetly purchase this I/C when I pick up my TT. Cheers

This was in response to some that said the design would only cool air through the bottom portion.

Wow, thanks for posting that link to the ebay auctions. Gets you thinking!

For that price, it's worth making my own hot-glued together foam core mockup and trying to fit it on my car. I like the idea of $250 much more than $1200+... and being bar and plate they seem to be of sound construction.

Heck, if it would fit, I'd probably end up spending more on mandrel bends to plumb it than the actual cost of one of those intercoolers.

I would go with a Bell or Spearco. Lot's of options for end tanks to make pipe routing easier. I have a Greddy 3row on my Supra no problems what so ever up to 900hp, which is a similar design to the Spearco.

Don't scimp on the couplers and clamps. T-bolts and diesel silicone are best for not failing. If money isn't an object you can just get a set of Wiggins clamps!

what would be a better idea is to sponsor one of those nice turbo set ups to an exhisting member .. i would love to donate my car for such a project .

Remember that the proper way yo make an intercooler better is to add more cores that flow air, not just making the same cores longer. Also try real hard to have opposite inlet and outlets to make the air use the whole core. It was $460

you can get cores from ebay for next to nothing, then welding end tanks on isn't a big deal if you're a good fabricator.

Most intercooler cores on EBAY are of Taiwanese or Chinese decent and are junk. SSAutochrome, XS power, etc... Cheaply produced heat exchangers that will draw in the unsuspecting by there pretty finish and cheap prices.

Simply put the only cores that I reccomend running are Garrett or Spearco. There are a handful of other smaller companies such as Bell that make/subcontract a good product also.
