      Shallow pan for a 6L90e

Does anyone know which of the 6l80e and 6L90e pans have the lowest profile? I have a 6l90e, and know that there is a shallower 6L80e pan that can be modified (modify pan, and use the 6l80 filter). I believe it is either the pan from the CTS or the G8. I currently have 1.75-2" of tranny pan below my frame rails (I have not cut my tunnel....yet). I have a speedtech track time package with a l92/6L90e combo in a 67 Camaro.

      Thank you in advance!
      Bob

      Bob,

Couple of years back GM powertrain showed caddy 6L80E had a shallow pan. Don't no if thats still true are not.

G8/Holden 6L80E has shallow pan that appears to be the same as Cadi pan. I'm assuming one of the part numbers for pan and filter are still good. I purchased the 24239528 pan and 24239528 filter for it back in 2008 for my build.

      Shallow VE/G8 filter: 24236930* (revised from 24236932).

      Shallow pan - VE/G8: 24228399* or 24239528 (VIN specific?)

He used Modified Holden SE/Pontiac G8 pan to get a little more ground clearance.

6L80e Deep pan ground clearance on my 66 C2, and that is not with suspension set to ride height I'd like to run.

Thank you so much. This helps a lot. .8" will help a lot ( I will only be 1-1.25" below my frame rails.)

Sounds like there aren't any aftermarket suppliers yet?

No pan suppliers and I doubt if there will be for a while.

Street & performance has cooling line plate if your not planning on using ones with lines from G8 or a truck. http://hotrodlane.cc/

Best assortment of information on 6L80/90E is thread on 68 Camaro install on LS1Tech. Might be a few more part numbers for things you may need. Guy who started thread is always willing to help people.

I will look him up. I just became a member of LS1Tech.

I plan to use Twist Machines Paddles, and hope to order soon.

      Thanks again

Here is the good pan #24239528
      The good filter #: 24236932
They are both for the G8 6L80e. They are not the same numbers as the CTS. I do not know if the CTS is shallower.

Any good suggestions on a Shifter? (I plan to use Twist Machine's Paddles, and was told the G6 shifter seemed to be a easy retro fit.)

Just noticed I repeated the 24239528 pan number twice. Last time as filter number.

Sorry about that. I even went out and got the number off original box for filter and then typed in the pan number.

Any shifter with this common pattern will work. I used the G8 one because it has TU/TD position. Sine you will be using paddles, you don't need that feature.

My guess is the G6 shifter is same as G8. It most likly will need a console built to cover it.

G8 shifter I used. Just built a cover for it.

In my other 6 speed car, I'm using a shift works shifter that fits like original automatic shifter did. It has aftermarket 6 speed that can handle up to 850 HP. The 6L80E can't handle the 430 HP LS3 in Corvette or 400 HP of the G8 if you beat on it. It handles normal driving with no problems.

The 6L80 car will be my cruise around car.

I am assuming the first picture is of a Caddy. Your console turned out great.

Yep, thats a Caddy shifter. It's the one I wanted, but was about double the cost of the G8 one.

      G8 as installed.

Another Caddy one from cheaper model.

I would have gone with one of the Shift Works shifters if I had gone with paddles. Check out the link below and you may find a stock looking one for your car at least in 68 model. A stock 67 PG shifter might work for you.

He might want to check with Cadillac parts department to see if the 6l90E MYD might have shallow pan and filter. Being in the MYD family it may not. If not he will have no choice except to extend the 6L80E shallow pan. Per his original post he is aware that 6L8 pan has to be extended.

I will call a Caddy dealer tomorrow, and see what I can find.

I will keep you informed, and provide PN's.

      Bob,

You might want to go see if you can see the pan on a 6L90E equipped 2011 CTS-V Coup, Sedan or wagon.

I stoped by local Cadillac dealer and checked on Pan & filter number for CTS. Couldn't tell from breakdown picture if it was shallower than a truck pan are not. When we ran the pan part number to see what all might use it (wanted to see if P/N fit other models that use 6L90E), it only came up for the 2011 CTS-V Coupe, Sedan and Wagon.

Pan Part Number - 24248164, Filter - 24236933 & Gasket - 24226850. There is a Kit number for Filter too.

I called the Caddy Dealership today, and they gave me the following #'s:
      Pan: 24248164 $47.22
      Filter: 24236933 $55.62
We go these numbers by running the VIN of the CTS-V on the floor. I currently have them on order, and will compare them to the G8's that I have on order with the Chevy dealer!

Thanks for looking! Seems like we found the same parts.
