4th gen radiator in 1st gen

Is anyone using the radiator out of a 4th gen in their 1st gen? They look dinky compared to aftermarket but they obviously work in the 4th gen. I'm not certain on the dimensions but they look close. Does anyone have any expereince using one? I'd be using it with an auto, if I got one would I be better off getting one for a stick and using an external trans cooler with a fan? Anything I need to worry about? I did the search and unless I used the wrong terms it doesn't seem that anyone is using one.
      thanks

I've seen it done plenty of times over on LS1tech in their conversions section. You may take a look over there. I had planned on doing it to stay on the cheap side, but the more I see that rad cap/neck at an angle, the more it bugs me. I'll likely end up with an aftermarket unit.

As far as the trans cooler, it all depends on the car's typical duties. If you're planning on beating on it hard your trans may be happier with an external cooler. If it's mostly street time, I would stick with the internal cooler.

That's what I was thinking about the cooler - especially if I used a 4th gen rad. Travis has said they've been used many times. I'll check for pics on ls1 tech. thanks for the tip.

I put one in my camaro. Got the radiator for $32 off ebay brand new, and fans for 150. All it took was a set of brackets and some trimming of the core support to expose all of the radiator. I will try and get some pictures this weekend.

I used a take-off rad/fan setup in my 67. Made some brackets to mount the rad, no other mods needed. Will post some pics sunday.

The car is apart for paint right now, so I can't take any additional pictures. This is the only one i have.
It needs brackets, which can be as simple as bent flatbar, and the area around the center of the radiator needs to be trimmed, but it doesn't interfere with anything important.

Looks like it would work no problem. Thanks.

I used one on a prior '69 Camaro and it actually worked really well. Used external trans cooler.
