Start new job next week

My current employers suck so bad that I have decide to move on. Ordinarily this would be no big deal but I lucked into a gig less than a mile from my house. Cool in itself, I have no boss and no co-workers. Finally, my own shop and no one monitoring my every move and making me punch on and off each and every time I turn a bolt. Ok, let me get to the good part. In the building right next to me (connected by a doorway) is the weld shop which I have full access to. That includes all the fab equipment, TIG, MIG, plasma and and bulk stock. Ye-haw. Anyone ever use the "Pirhana", that thing rocks? Cuts almost anything including angle stock and bends too. I am psyched.

No, I am working for someone doing maintenance and repair on their companies’ fleet of vehicles. Around 100 1-ton trucks, a few 5 tons, and a couple tractor/trailers with lo-boys.

I just work in my own little world so there is no direct supervision, Nextel is the only leash. Thanks guys.

Congratulations Dennis. I know exactly how you feel. After being an insurance adjuster the last year-and-a-half, I've decided that leaving "the shops" was a bad idea. I'm heading back into the paint & body business. I start my new job next week also. I'll be supervising the PDR (paintless dent repair) and paint technicians at the Dallas Auto Auction. That place is unbelievable. They are the major auctioneer for DaimlerChrysler, Nissan, Kia, & GM. Over 200 acres of nothing but cars and trucks! They also run other stuff through there. Saw a fully restored '68 Hurst Olds 442 - black with gold stripes last week. I was trying to watch for the guy that was going to interview me so didn't see what it went for. I did see the winning bidder jump in it and take it for a spin as soon as he was announced the winning bidder though. They also sell salvage vehicles and you can bet I'll be watching for any LS-1 F-bodies and or Vettes. Damn, didn't mean to jack your thread Dennis. Good luck with the new job!!

Hey Vince...I was surprised you hadn't heard of the pending sale yet. Pay...it is a union shop; of course I am the only employee so I kind of negotiate my own contract. We settled at 28.00/hr and a 5% pay raise annually, 480/month into the pension, and the standard vacation package. Oh yeah, 2 hrs O/T daily and Saturdays if I want. I may actually get some work done now (house payment dropped from 2400 to 2100 this month too)!!! Sometimes life just works out.

Sorry for rambling guys...we have been pretty stretched for cash for about a decade or so; this is pretty exciting, it's also the first time since I can remember that I am excited about going to work.
