Another dang Camaro

After threats from Rich (MCMLXIX) I was told I need to start a new build thread on my latest project.

A 67 Camaro.

I sold my last Project NVMYSS a 69 Chevelle that I had owned twice since 96 Thread here. I took the money from it and bought a 67 Camaro off a member Daniel Louie (DLoiue).

The Camaro had been posted for a good while and I was able to drive up to look at the car on the 20th of Nov. I liked what I saw and we struck a deal.

I loaded it up on the trailer and brought it home.


The car came with LS1 and 4l60, Ricks narrow tank and a good paint job.
Leaving me a good start for a PT build. Where I get to pick the suspension.
I'll try to keep this as low buck as I can so I'll be following in the foot steps of those that have proven leafs can work. Tyler, and Carl's builds will be that foundation.

The money I had left over from the Chevelle was going to go right into the suspension, but instead I bought 14" Wilwoods all the way around 6 pot up front & 4 in the rear.
The car came with some 13" Wilwoods for the front with the stock spindles, but I'm won over by the AFX spindle so these are being sold to fund my wheels.
I have to now go with 18" to clear the massive 14". 17" ZR1's would have been much cheaper.

With the remaining money I called upon Frank @ Prodigy to set me up with the new Dakota Digital gauge set, Stainless Bolt set, and Wilwood prop. valve.
I scored a 2.5 Magnaflow exhaust of ebay for $420 shipped.
Got some 275/35-18's off Todd (VEGAS69) for the rear.

So that is my project to this point, not much will happen until I have more time and more $$.
The time I will have in a few months when the wife goes down range. I'll have lots of time to work on the car and the house.

The to-do list is long but I plan on making this a daily driver and enjoying the car.

None of the exhaust at this time it was to dark under the car and I don't have all my lights up in the new garage yet.
I only have had time to start laying it out underneath and that's about it.

Well I started on the exhaust last night.
That was a bunch of cursing, banging, cutting and welding and I still do not have the tailpipes on yet......

I started by laying out everything under the car with the car on jack stands and the weight on the axle so I could figure out clearance.
I tried to start from the rear so I could determine how long to cut the elbows from the header to the X-pipe but I ran into a problem.
I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the tailpipe under the back and have them line up with the turn down facing down. I could only get them to route good along tank and they would face in toward the license plate.

One of the tailpipes has D/S written on it in blue paint pen so I would assume it goes on the driver side.

Anybody know if I should try rerouting another way or have people had to cut off the ends and reweld them back on?

So after messing with the tailpipes I gave up on them and moved to attaching the X-pipe to the headers. The headers have slip fit 3” reducers with the O2 sensor down to 2.5” from this I welded the supplied elbows so they could be slipped into the X-pipe. Bad part here is the headers are toed out so the angles did not jive well with what was supplied. I ended up having to cut and reweld the pipe to fit better. But I’m not that happy with it, I don’t think I have enough pipe slipped in to the joint for a good seal. The kit requires cutting down of the elbows no matter what.
I tried to get the X-pipe as close as possible to the rear of the transmission so it would not interfere with the drive shaft but due to the above problem I was only able to get it about 4” behind the U-joint, so not I’m concerned that I will get unwanted love between the X-pipe and the drive shaft.

So at this point I have the headers slip fit to the reducers / reducers welded to the elbows / elbows slip fit to the X-pipe / X-pipe slip fit to the mufflers. I have about ½ clearance above the X-pipe and the mufflers are all the way back on the hangers/insulators.

I’ll post some pictures of this when I’m under the car next time.

Got my new gauges from Prodigy today.

I will be putting them in as soon as I find a affordable bezel, mine is missing the corners.
But I can at least start the wiring.

I've been looking at those gauges for awhile now. What's holding me back is the cost. I'll be interested on how it goes together. Looks like you have a solid foundation to work with.

Had time today to get the gauges all wired and ready for install.
Just need a bezel and they are done. (Keep getting out bid on e-bay )
So for now they are zip-tied in place.

Made some progress on the car today.
Installed the front grill and wired the lights. Lights are H4 with relays.


My $20 Pomona swap meet intake that I cut up to fit.

I also managed to snag a Hotchkis rear swaybar and front springs that were mounted and removed. Only $200 @ Pomona good deal since this is the new one with the end links
