SUSPENSION FORUM GUIDELINES (Please read before posting)

Pro-Touring.com consists of a diverse group of hot rodders. Most, if not all, are interested in improving the handling of their cars. Some are content to bolt on aftermarket parts, others seek to build the ultimate chassis from scratch. Regardless of your goals, its is important for all of us to understand how suspension works. Greater knowledge will undoubtedly help you select or fabricate the right parts for your application. Armed with a solid understanding of suspension terminology and function, you will be in a better position to choose and communicate with outside labor. And of course, a good understanding of suspension design may very well save your life.

Our goal is to elevate the club to a higher understanding of suspension design. There are several suspension experts, and tons of amateur suspension tuners that browse this forum, all willing to help whenever possible. There is no such thing as a stupid question. Members with advice are asked to to be patient and courteous. However, we ask that you meet them half way. Before you post a new thread in the forum, please conduct a quick search to determine if the topic has already been covered in detail in one of the archived threads. Once the same simple question is asked over and over again, their motivation for regurgitating the same info, begins to diminish, and thus you will see less responses to your question.

Here is a list of simple guidelines for posting in the suspension forum:

1). Use the search tool. It's located at the top right of the site. Back out of this Sticky Note and look for the words Search at the top right of the suspension topic. Conduct a thorough search to determine if your question has already been covered. Most questions have already been covered many times over. If you can't find the answer, or if you need clarification, feel free to post your question.
2). If you have the urge to further your knowledge on the suspension theory, design and kinematics behind several of the more popular pro-touring setups (3-link, 4-link, 4-bar, Satchell link, IRS, etc.), or if you just want some good late night reading-- Purchase one or more recommended books listed in one of the "Sticky Notes" below. You will benefit from these titles even if you are just looking to purchase bolt-on parts.
3). Always remember that more knowledgeable members are here to help you, not serve you. Don't test their patience.
4). Vendors are encouraged to start or join threads, But be prepared to back up any claims with sound theory and data.
      5) For more hardcore enthusiasts, key threads have been compiled into a "Sticky Note" listed below.

As Pro-Touring is a subset of hot rodding, always keep in mind that this is a hot rod site first and foremost. Members have different goals for their pro-touring cars--from the most basic street car upgrade to an all out Track Day car. Most members hope to fall somewhere in between. Regardless of your intended goal, let's all remember to respect that diversity at all times..
