      real wings and splitters

on my '69 camaro i'm building for track days i am thinking about adding a front splitter and a rear wing like this one.
      http://www.aprperformance.com/index....d=35&Itemid=44

my plan is to have two deck lids one thats cut for the wing and one that has a rear spoiler on it for non track days. now if i leave the wing on when i drive around would i be a ricer or would the awesomeness of a vintage muscle car in race trim make it ok?

uh not one to pop someones balloon, but I believe Paul Walker would love it and he would put a bunch of cool stickers on the wing as well

      Let them talk !!
I say , go all the way with your street driven car ( If that's what you want to do )
The wing would look cool on a street driven car .

I prefer this type of wing though :

it will see alot of street driving. but the main thing with my car is track and autocross handling. it will see as many track days as my budget will get me.

alot of technology has come along since these cars were built. i figured i would just take advantage of it to build a way fun track/street car.

      make sure that you

brace it inside of the trunk. I think it was at VIR that a guy had one bolted to the deck lid and the down force pushed it (deck lid) down, changed the angle of the spoiler and the air ripped it and the deck lid off at speed....he went off track.

Cool look to me. It is only ricer if it is not functional in my book.

IMHO, it's on ricer if it meets one simple qualification - It's on a vehicle far ill equipped for it to be of any real use.

For example, a FWD car with no front spoiler. Or an all stock 80's car that struggles to reach highway speed.

Go for it!! But as PK mentioned, mount it correctly (should be mounted to frame) so it doesn't cause any un-wanted damage while in use.

i'm sorry guys, i thought i posted that it will be mounted to the frame rails and tied into the cage. i just reread the whole thread and i don't see anywhere that i said that so it must have been on another message board.

at 5* AOA and 120 mph the gtc-500 wing will have 315 lbf. of negative lift. and 260 lbf. with an AOA of 0*.at 80 mph 0* AOA 115 lbf. negative lift and 5* AOA = 139 lbf. negative lift.

it seems that i need to start with normal spring rates + 150 lbs. based on what the corvette guys (with coil overs not the leaf springs) are doing. yes it will have a very firm ride at slower speeds but i'm ok with that. i'll more than likely keep the wing at 0* most of the time because its a 3D design. the center is 0* but the ends are at 10* to make better use of the air flow over the car.

i think i have done more reasearch on the wing and splitter than i did on the gains of moving my engine back.

Hahaha, maybe you can help me then: something I haven't seen info wise on those wings is if the wing provides linear down force as the speed increases. Meaning it will allow you to tune your car for 70 mph corners and the 120 mph corners have the same aero balance.

LG Motorsports makes a full carbon wing (same exact wing mold as what's used on the GM (and LG) Corvette's in ALMS GT2 cars) that was created by GM and wind tunnel tested etc, and it provides linear down force..but I can get bigger discounts on APR stuff than Lou will give me

I talked with a few guys at the track and I believe this is the type of wing you are thinking of. http://aeromotions.com/

Thanks, I forgot about that one

This is the LG one that provides linear downforce: http://www.lgmotorsports.com/catalog...oducts_id=2153
