1964 Olds Cutlass F-85 Rim and Tire sizes please help...
I currently have 18x8" wheels with 6.875" backspace on my car. They are 5x4.5 so i'm using 1.25" rear and 1" front billet bolt adapters which provide an end result:
Front 18x8 = 5.875" backspace 225/45/18 tire
Rear 18x8 = 5.625" backspace 225/60/18 tire
The rears seem to be an absolute perfect fit with very little room to spare- centered very nicely in the wheelwell.
The fronts seem very close to the lip, infact I cannot turn lock-to-lock because they scrub the inner lip pretty good.
So is it because the car has the original suspension and it's sagging? Or is the 1964 so much different than the 1965 to 1968?
I see all these cars online and in magazines running half the backspacing and much wider tires... what gives?
Now that we know what's on the car- what is the absolute maximum I can run without heavy body modifications? I'd like to run a 18x9.5 or 18x10 with 275/40 rear tire. Even at 5.75 or 6" backspace I don't think it will fit on my car..... does anyone have experience with the 1964 A-body Oldsmobiles?
Thanks a million in advance!
Here's the car, sorry for the I-Phone photo. By the way, the 18" coddingtons with tires are for sale.
