If I admitted to having a secret fund, it wouldn't be a secret anymore.

HA! Funny post. After a very high maintenence 1st wife and many high maintenence girlfriends my new line when I met a girl was, "Look, I'm always going to be broke because I spend a lot of money on my car, I'm kind of a jerk when I'm grumpy and quite frequently when we go to a nice place to eat there will be grease and paint I just can't get out of my nails". The girl that accepted that I married.

She says as long as we all can eat, I can build cars. Unfortunately the thing that defines me costs money.

I see that you convinced her that a horse is a horse and you should have at least 500 or more if she is going to have some of her own.lol.

I had a guy who has horses tell me I was wasting my money on my car and it would never be worth anything I have in it. I told him that after many years I will have spent $2000 each one of them and after 20 years I would have a new car for my money and all he would have is a dead horse.

Thought you might be a ble to use it someday when she tells you how much $$ you waste on your cars if she ever gets the incling to do so. She sounds like a great woman and she let you buy a C5.

If you can't get your wife to support your hobby you are already in trouble, if she is indifferent and doesn't care you are lucky.

Now if your wife buys you parts you are extremely lucky.

Never have an argument over the money you spend on your car as life insurance can make you the loser,LOL

I spend what I spend and if the car can't be sold to pay the debt you have done something really wrong with priorities. Now if you can sell your wife to pay the debt........... Not going there now!!!

The real truth is that I don't even know how much I have spent on my car these days. I think I know but so many little items in 19 years could add up to thousands and you wouldn't know it.

I will let you know when the limit has been reached and hopefully it never will be.

No secret fund here. I manage our money and know how much I can spend on the cars. With that said, I also know how much my wife spends on furniture and decorating a house that's way too big for just the two of us so I guess it's a wash!

I'm lucky that I can devote all my National Guard money to car projects, but the wife will kick in "family" money if needed. She would also have grease under her nail if it wasn't for medical gloves at the shop! She did sort out my electrical problems with the new wiring harness... Sometimes I think I'm just lucky, but then that's when I realize what a great catch I was for her.
      Hope she doesn't read this!

I wouldn't say it was a secret....I just prefer not to discuss it!

Absolutely not. A "secret account" sounds like a one way ticket to divorce. I do freelance design on the side, and that is my Camaro money, and it's no secret. If there is ever anything that money can be used for that is a higher priority then the Camaro, I would have no problem using that money for something else. I might get shunned for saying this, but the car is a hobby, it's pretty low on the priority list.

Part of being married is everything is "ours".

Except MY cars. But then again I'm not married and she could care less either way.

Joint Account was your 1st mistake. We keep separate accounts.
I never wanted all that drama I hear about from other married guys.

My wife knows I blow alot of my excess funds on my 2 cars and 2 bikes.
She doesn't care, because my money is my own, and hers is her own.
We split the bills and everyone is happy.

There's a real science to it. She knows about the account, but not how much is in it. I always give the impression that the account is almost struggling. On the few occasions that we needed to tap into my hotrod account, I told her that there wasn't enough in there to do what we needed to do, so we should ask my folks. THEN (lol) I brought the cash with me to my folks' house, slipped cash to my mom, and my mother "loaned" us the money.

The cool thing is that my wife ALWAYS pays my mom back, and my mom gives it back to me to put back into MY account. I have a cool and understanding mother.

The funniest thing is that not that long ago, my mom "loaned" my wife $10,000 as a downpayment on a new car, but my wife still thinks my personal account is barely surviving.
