      Reverse Opening Hood for Camaro

I remember seeing a product update in either HotRod, Popular Hot Rodding, or Car Craft for reverse opening hood hinges withing the last 6 months. I can't find the magazine that had it. Anyone know the website? Thanks.

I think you are talking about this company:

If you go back a couple of pages in this forum, to page 3 (towards the bottom), this was talked about a little bit.

How does it open with the front panels on as it looks like the front of the hood will hit the grill ?

With the grill in place, the hood opens about 5 degrees less. However that is still open enough for the hood to counterbalance itself and stay open on its own with any need for springs or braces. I do need to add a latch or prop to keep wind from blowing it closed.

The BMW parts cost $168, including shipping. It took about 3 weeks of effort to get all the bugs worked out. Much of that time was spent 'glassing in the the mounting bosses on the front of the hood.

work on a Camaro setup, and you can make a few bucks Im sure. That electric glide or whatever its called, is way too much money.

      What If ?

What if I got off of my butt and made some ? I have already done the working prototype and know what to do to make it show quality.

I was working so much o.t. at work I hadn't had the time but it has finally slacked off a bit.

You can make the front hinge for about $30 at the most for aluminum and the latches if I had to do it over again I would use C5 latches but my current setup works and is hidden in the cowl area.

I will try to find some close up pics so you can see how it is done.

You have to start with a lift off hood and add the mounting areas which is nothing more than a couple blocks of wood and some T nuts.

I don't even know what a set would be worth. Any comments are welcome. I didn't realize it might come to this but it is a really cool setup if your engine is set back or you just plain hate workink around hinges.

Anyways I need to get off my butt and do it, so kick me

Seriously though, I would buy a set from you for my 67 SS if you decided to do some up.

Jim, if you didnt live so far away the high school students could help you out on this one.

If you can give some good details and pics, Im sure we could make a few.

We can see how they sell and split the profits 70-30, 70 going to you of course for the design, Im sure there wouldnt be hundreds of thousands of dollars,

but if your interested send me a PM, I think we are getting a lift off hood from Mr.Quick, so thats a good starting point.

      thanks again Bob AZ.
