Just bought a 72 RS (PICS)

Just recently bought a 72 rs camaro. Found it in a barn about 10 miles away from my house. It has the orginal paint that has seen better days and a vinyl top that was ripped off. My plans so far are ls2 with 18x12s out back. Guys what's the first thing I should do first obvisouly its gonna need major bodywork. I already took the whole front clip off for starters.

take it all apart and fix the body and get a good starting point. then suspension and drivetrain. paint and interior last.

but have a plan so you dont waste money redoing anything.

      good luck.

Do your steel work first and foremost! You need a solid foundation to build from before anything else. I've done one of these cars and getting closer to completion on my second and the first thing I always do is strip everything and hang it on the rottisserie. If the shell isn't stable enough for that I spot blast and replace as neccessary until I can hang it.

By the looks of the photos you definately need a roof skin LOL. Check the inner roof structure carefully. If it's solid you can get the outer skin as a repop which wasn't available until last year. If the inner structure is bad look for a donor car to do a swap. You'll also need full qaurters and probably inner drop offs. These cars are notorious for floor pan rust also. You can get a complete one piece floor which just came out a year ago or if only neede you can get partial pans.

I don't want to bust your bubble but unless you are proficient with panel replacemant or are equipped and willing to learn panel replacement then you are looking at easily having 10K give or take a couple thousand in the sheetmetal alone if it's done "RIGHT". That would be roof, both full qaurters, drop-offs, floor pans, and door skins if needed and these cars are also notorious for needing a trunk pan or trunk pan repair.

Good luck with it, I'm partial to the second gen cars and the values are rising on them quickly. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the kind words. Parkerrs the floor pans are good except for where the back seats where. I figured a roof, full quarters, trunk pan, and a tail light panel and i'll be fine. i dont know what to do i about the rear though. What would you call that the rear seat pans??
Thanks 71CamaroSS for the offer but no thanks. Do you know what my car would look like 22 thousand dollars later?? I'm sorry guys but i'm 23 for me it's all about the experience of building a car if i go out and buy a car with bodywork already done etc etc the money i spent on buying that car i could put it in this one whereas i know exactly where my money went to and exactly what was done. Plus there is a 95% ill never sell this car, this is my dream car.
