Open track day at The Streets of Willow

The LA Shelby Club is having an open track day at Willow Springs, it is for the Streets of Willow on May 3 and 4. I am seriously thinking about running the Chevelle there. I heard from one of the Shelby Club people they need to get more people to sign up.

That's my favorite track. I think it's because it's small and not as easy to get in trouble on. LOL!

      Yeah... new shoes...

I am going to say that I am 80% to be there at this point. We'll see how Del Mar goes and how things are coming together but if I can, I will be there.

It would be awesome if we could get a half dozen or so members out to this - just the exchange of information would be invaluable (not to mention the flogging)...

Dave and I are talking about coming out and I might bring the red car. We can be pit crew for the Pro-Touring folks that run as well.

Streets of Willow is a very fun and safe track. It's not high-speed like "Big Willow" but is very technical and you have to bring your driving "A" game; I liken it to a big, fast autocross. Of all the tracks I've run (not that there's that many ...), Streets is one of the best.

Let's get some action going here and get some Pro-Touring cars out there.

They are not going to run the bowl which is the most oil-challenging turn on the coarse.

Not much to hit out there. The speeds are less than Buttonwillow on most of the track but a lot of speed can be carried off the front stretch into the uphill RH sweeper.

Would my stock fox body be welcome or would it be too much slower (especially on straights) than the other cars to be practical? I've never done a trackday before, which begs the question, am I fit to go?

Yes, you should come if you're interested in getting your track feet wet. Streets of Willow is the best place to do this as Carl's right on about the safety and not much out there to hit other than a tumbleweed ...

This track is very technical and speed on the straights isn't the focus. It's a momentum type of track where carrying speed through the corners is key. A car set up well for handling will usually kick tail over one that goes like hell but is limited in the "stop and turn" department.

WOW this is a great response. I just posted this for a friend that would like to see the club get more to show up. Well it looks like I need a better battery retainer (they want a full over the top batt hold down) and I need to get the 12 bolt going. I just was interested in some shakedown runs for my Chevelle on the smaller Streets track for its lower speeds and wide run off area.
