Yes, and our wonderful 'civic garbage men' (er sorry 'sanitation engineers') have been on strike for the past 30+ days. I am fortunate to be in Etobicoke (a former suburb of Toronto or the GTA) as we have private (contract) garbage so at least our garbage (or babbage as I put it) and recycling gets picked up.

Our unfortunate friends in the core of Toronto are not so lucky, they are having to live through stinky garbage in the summer. Thankfully, the weather has been so poor (rain/cold) that the stench isn't too bad (unless you live near a drop-off point).

The issue for the union, get this one... 'they want to be paid for sick days _not_ taken (i.e. banked)'. Apparently they get 18 sick-days per year (that is about twice what most private businesses provide) but say they take only 4 actual sick-days? They bank 14 days they can use later for their retirement. Some could leave as early as 6 months ahead of time based on banked sick days.

I am all for fairness in the workplace, but when you hear about people striking over these kinds of issues, it just makes your gut churn 8^(

    Vancouver here.

Hey any other lower mainland guys interested in forming a pro-touring themed club??

I got bored already attending the stationary car shows this spring/summer.

If someone isn't doing it already, I'd like to do something along the lines of a power tour over a long weekend next summer. 2010
Lots of great mountain highways in the interior here...
