What heads are you running? I've been telling people that the 1-3/4 hedman hustlers are the way to go. They worked great on my Dart Sportsman 2s and cleared my Milodon pan also.

There are pictures of the clearance between the AC box and rear tube in the link that I posted yesterday

I'm in the same boat you are in man. I have the 1 3/4" hooker headers and i do not like them at all. I've touched the tires on them when i'm in a parking lot or something tighter like that. I'm almost contemplating switching to 1 5/8 cause it's just a street driven malibu. You got pics of your headers that you have in the car now?

Excuse the cell phone pics and the loose wiring. I was in the process of re-routing some wiring during the header install

I am helping a friend with his 78 malibu and he has fast burn heads which have the d port.He would also like to get away from the 1 3/4 around the frame design but we dont know of and d port 1 5/8 headers that will fit the car with ac box.

I have the Heddman 65219's (1 7/8") on my Malibu. They have a adaptor plate that extends them out about 3/8" to mount up to a std straight exhaust bolt pattern. The A/C box had to go on my car (or maybe could have been modified and the cut off corner boxed back up ??), I ended up putting a flat block off plate on. I also cut about 3" off the length of one of the collectors. The 65219's and a typical 7qt mild kick out type pan made changing the oil filter a big mess. I was forced to switch to a remote mount oil filter when I swapped from a TH350 to a TKO600.

But Samckitt, you probably should look at the Schoenfeld (www.schoenfeldheaders.com) #186 or #186cm headers or the 186M or 186MCM if you have stock manual clutch linkage. They (like my 65219's) would require you to weld a ring on the collector. The schoenfelds' have a cheap paint on them that basically just keeps them from rusting while sitting around. Anyway they are a very good header for the price (usually about $180) and are 1 3/4" to a 3 1/2" collector. They fit straight & angle plugs but they do require a short oil filter.

Hope that helps you and other G-body guys out.

I ran a Dynomax 1-3/4 ful length that fit awesome. I bought them used after searching for a long time and when I sold my Monte as a roller I sold the headers. I wish they still made them.
