Need Help with Front Disc Brake Kit for 17x8.5 Wheel

      Hi Guys...

I should specify that this is for the '68 Camaro...

      Here's my suspension setup ideas...

Hotchkis 2" Drop Springs in Front
Hotchkis 1.5" Drop 3-Leaf Springs in Rear
      KYB Shocks all around
      Torque Thrust II Wheels --
      Front - 17x8.5 with 5" Back Spacing
      Rear - 17x9.5 with 5.5" Back Spacing
      Tire Size of --
      Front - 245/40/17
      Rear - 275/40/17

I'm looking for a Front Disk Brake Kit that will allow me to use the 17x8.5 wheel without rubbing... If I need to change the front wheels out or backspacing...I can...but would like to keep as is and find a Front Disk Brake system that will work...

Anyone out there running a similar setup?

      Thanks,
      TIM

why dont you just get 8's in the front and 10's in the rear?? I have 17X8 4.5bs in the front stock suspension for now and they only rub on the bottom bolts of the fenders. You may want to watch the 5"bs on the front it may not fit your steering linkage. I bought the 12 wilwood 4 piston setup for the front and they fit fine.

Will 17x10 Torque Thrust wheels work with the 5.5 backspacing in the rear with no prob... No rubbing of the inner fender or no sticking way out...Wider is better

It would be cool to see someone's setup...

As for up front... I can do 8's up front with the backspacing requested...if what I have listed is pushing it too close...

I'll probably be going with a Front Disc Brake Kit...one that comes with Master, lines, etc... One very similar to what Mike's 1st Gen is showing in their cataloge...

I'm just trying to get the whole wheel/Tire thing nailed down before purchasing...

Some disc brake kits will not fit TTII's, depends on how big of rotors you want. Baer's 13" track kit will work (it is basically C4 Corvette rotors and calipers) You can download templates from their website to check if their brake kits will fit your wheels. Touring Classics and Speedtech offer 13" kits that use the stock spindles and drum brake hubs (you have to machine them down). Their 13" C5 Corvette rotor and caliper kit will not fit TTII's but their hybrid kit (C4 rotors and C5 calipers) are supposed to fit. You can also download templates from Touring Classic's website. Hope this helps.
      Cheers

      wheels and brakes

for TT II's and wheels that style 17x8x4 3/4 BS and 17x9.5x5 1/2 bs is the best for tucking the wheel under the fender and no contact with tierod. I have the wheel vintiques with those measurements and no problems at all. If you were going with Budniks, DSE recommends 17x8x4 7/8" for front.

JayWeb who is a member here is running the exact whel setup as I mentioned above with TT II's.

BTW....I see you are from Raleigh. I live in Pittsboro and work in RTP. Welcome to the site.

      Tim,

If interested, check out my website on how to fit 275/40/17's on all four corners. The car also has 13"/12" disk brakes.

I would go with the Baer set up. The calipers are pretty low profile and clear most wheels. The kit moves the wheel out I think 5/8". Plus the kits are complete.
