LS Time - Help me choose...

Ok, I've decided to build an LS engine for my Camaro.
      I want:
      Aluminum Block
      500-550 rwhp through a TKO-600 and a 12bolt w. 3.73 gears.
      No NOS.

      How should I get there?
      7L LS2?
      LS7?
      What rotating assembly?
      AFR Heads?
      90mm FAST Intake and TB
      Magnacharger?

      Any thoughts?

Couple different ways to get those numbers. If supercharging is an option you'll accept, you can make those numbers with a stock LS6 and a Procharger. Just get the biggest intercooler you can in there. Stock C5 Z06 vettes running the Procharger stage 2 system make over 500 rwhp. With headers and a good exhaust it only goes up from there. Want to insure you get 500+, use 6.0 heads on an LS1/6 so you can up the boost.

If you want to do this NA, you'll needs more cubes than 346. An aggressive LS2 will get right at 500 rwhp(check out LG Motorsports). However, I would go for at least a 402 cu in motor if you want 500 NA. You can top it with ported L92 heads and put a nice cam into it and make your goal no problem. SLP has a 402 package that makes great power.

LS2 with L92 truck heads with 12 to 1 compression running on E85 should make 500 to the wheels. Use a L76 intake or a single plane with a 4barrel throttle body.
LS2-watch the LS1TECH classifieds for a low mile shortblock
L92's Scoggin Dickey for about a grand.
Pretty cheap combo considering the power and reliability.

What's the value of a low mileage LS2 shortblock?

Not sure, $1000? You could build one using all new parts though.
      new Ls2 block-$1000
      used crank-$150
forged pistons and h beam rods-$1100
valvetrain, oil pump, timing chain, bearings, etc.-$800??
Maybe check out the sponsors over at LS1TECH and see what the going rate of built up one is.
