      finally got an ls1

after searching high and low i finally caved in and bought an ls1. a user on ls1tech answered my want ad. i ended up buying his 2001 ss camaro engine.

the owner is in the process of getting an ls7 engine swap at forcefed performance in sacramento. the shop is going to crate it and ship it to me.

      engine includes:

      ls6 intake
      slp 85mm maf
      throttle body
      36lb injectors
      thunder racing 224-224 114 cam
      all new sensors
      coils
complete long block w/ valve train
      water pump
      balancer
      f body oil pan

not a bad deal on a 36000 mile engine.

Sounds like a nice bullet. How much did you wind up paying if you don't mind me askin?

      gave the guy 2700 shipped.

i might have over paid but for the value of the aftermarket parts and year of the engine i thought it was worth it. the owner said with headers the motor dynoed 390 at the wheels. not bad for stock heads.

i plan on getting some TSP ported ls6 heads and a bigger cam.

not bad. Your injectors will be plenty big enough for the heads too so that saves you 3-400 dollars right there.

i called the guy again after i sent off the pay pal and found out more about the engine.

found out he installed an entire thunder racing cam kit with new push rods, valve springs, and a new timing set.

it totally slipped my mind to ask about the valve train ungrades, but i guess they are necessary when swapping a new cam. i feel really good about this engine.

You paid for the whole transaction through Paypal? Wow, that'll be some fee for the seller! I dunno, I guess with big dollar items, I'm a pickup only, payment in person kinda guy.

Sorry for the off topic. Congrats on the purchase, I'd be stoked! Can't wait to get going on my LSX swap too...

how much is the pay pal fee? ill feel bad if he gets boned on the deal. hes a super nice guy. he threw in the maf and tb after i talked it out with him on the phone.

originally he asked 2500 for the engine with no oil pan or sensors. after some talkin he threw in an oil pan (easier shipping), sensors, injectors, maf, tb, and shipping for 2700.

very cool guy. way on top of things and very easy to deal with.

Sounds like a good deal to me, the extra parts are worth a bunch of money. The cam, Valvetrain and TC are worth close to $1K new so I think you did well.

got my engine and also picked up a t56 today! got a good deal on the t56 from a guy about 45 miles from me.

the engine is missing quite a few bolts and the seller forgot to give me the ignition coils... its missing the following that i can see.

      thermostat
      coils and their mounting brackets
      oil pan cover (pressure tee?)
almost all the rear cover bolts
      cam sensor bolt
      pcv system
      coolant steam pipe
oil sending unit needs to be plugged (back of the block)
two long oil pan bolts in the rear

i did end up with a Z06 MAF and the injectors look new. i popped off one of the valve covers and the springs look new. they are bee hive design with bright blue paint on them, any idea on the brand? comp? i need to tear into the engine more. ill take more pics tomorrow. for now enjoy! oh yeah i got a sweet engine cradle.

If that stuff wasn't listed, it's a safe bet they weren't included in the price. He is probably going to use them for his LS7 since they come pretty stripped from the factory.

Shouldn't be hard to find that stuff though. I think you got a decent deal for what it is.

I also think you could probably just port the heads you have now with that camshaft.

well i tore the intake and valley tray out of it today. since the engine is missing the pcv system im going to modify the block and install an ls6 valley tray, and pcv system. its smaller, simpler, and supposed to cut down on oil consumption.

good news is the engine has a double roller timing chain!

wonder what type of valve springs these are?

the engine is so dirty! i still dont know if im going to paint the block or not.

yeah that will be easy. Just be patient and look around. The pieces come up all the time so don't jump on the first ones you find unless they are a good deal of course

i have the gm part numbers for the alternator and power steering brackets, along with the idler pulley, and tensioner.

according to gmpartsdiect.com the alternator and power steering brackets are under $15 each. its the hardware im worried about. maybe i will try the chevy dealer. ls1 tech only lists the cts-v c5 and gto part numbers. id like to re use the under drive pulley.

i know for a fact that im going to sell the oil pan/pick up, heads, and cam from the motor. i want ported ls6 heads and a more radical cam. thinking about texas speed ls6 2.5 heads and a magic stick 3.
