Depends on the type of metallic, color sanding any single stage paint is a touchy practice at best. Got to have enough paint film or it will burn through.
This is why everyone who really tries to do a "show quality " paint job like base/clear systems. If you dont go through to the color your good and can always put on more clear.
I hope to soon have my Monza body ready for some implement paint, thinking Yellow or Orange, but whoo knows.
I dont know what to do color wise I have been messing with mixing colors, I was trying to hit on a purple color buut it lookedlike mud or something(pukey purple mud).

i have been sanding between coats, opposed to the suggested 2 coasts and then sand. I lightly sanded the third coat and if i have time i will put a forth on today.

it is all in the sanding. after coat 4, i will spend a good amoutn of time on each panel to get the orange peel out. It is coming along. I would say that for the 100 bucks i am in, i am happy. Looking foward to the end product.

i would also say that it takes a while to dry. it has been over 100 in ca the last couple of days and it still takes 48-72 hours to fully dry.

I agree with the drying part! I've been waiting at least a couple days between application and sanding and it seems to work best this way. Also, don't get impatient and try and put on thick coats. The paint will be gummy when you try and sand it.

did you have any issues with the little bubbes?

I am going to sand this next coat reallllllly well to try and flatten the paint as well as i can. it is coming along. So much better than my primer already.

The real secret to this whole thing is not the application so much as the prep before and the color sanding! If you can get the paint real smooth in color sanding you'll have less orange peel when you apply the next coat. For me the bubbles seem to all pop on their own so I have no issues with it. How are you mixing your paint? I'm doing a 70% paint/30% Mineral Spirits mix.
One question I do have is after the last color sand with 2000 do I buff or do I add another coat and buff on top of that?
