Sounds good. I think when you want more power you might try a victor jr intake and a 750 carb. Also a set of 3 step headers will work great, mine are 1 5/8, 1 3/4, then 1 7/8" into a 3" collector. I drag race but have found smaller than a 750 carb just doesn't get with it even on a 289 as my old 3310/780cfm Holley would spin the tires but a tweeked 600 wouldn't! I have a small bench-top SuperFlow Bench bought in the early 1980's. For more info on my combo check out the newby 'Ford Owner'.
When I quit racing (i'm 66 yrs old now) I plan on converting it back to street duty, with 71 Cougar front disc brakes (direct fit even the tie rod ends as right now they are on my used to be driver a '64 Falcon Ranchero), take the ladder bars off the rear, install one torque ladder bar similar to the camaro's and definitely road race style.

I am runngin 275/45 on the back and 245/45 up front. I just slipped them on for the first time last night with the tires and the backs hit the leaf springs. SO i put a 1 in. spacer on and now they stick out a bit to far. Do you have any suggestions as to what to do? I guess if I have to I will put wheel flares on it but I didnt want to do that.

I would try running the minimum spacer width necessary to clear the leaf springs. If at that point it still sticks out too far then you will have to go smaller or start cutting. Typically 65/66 cars can run 245 or 255 max with only some rolled lips and some well placed BFH hits to the inner housing. I would stick a 245 on the back, tuck it in as far as possible and slam it. If you cut you might as well go with a 295 or maybe a 315.
