Torq Thrust IIs on 78 Trans Am

      https://www.pro-touring.com/featured...8_trans_am.htm

I tried to email this guy but it appears his email address is no longer valid. Does anyone know what requirements are needed to fit Torq Thrust IIs on a 1979 T/A with stock brakes? Will I need to replace the braking system as this guy did? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks!
      Josh

Josh I'm not 100% sure but if you have stock brakes you should have no problems with any wheel ,on another note seems like late 2nd gen.T/A guys don't get much attention! Let me know if I can help in any other way.

I have talked to this guy

I have talked with Pete here was his comments on his setup.

The wheels were custom ordered from American Racing.
      -17x9.5 front with 5.5''bs and 275/40 tire
      -17x11 rear with 5.7''bs and 315/35 tire. I tried a 335...no go.

It's tight but everything fits like a glove, required ZERO chassis mods and have Zero rubbing anywhere... absolute heaven. =)

      Hope this helps.

      Scott.

      Thanks guys!

I am so glad I found that car. I looked all over the web for Torq Thrust IIs on a TA. American Racing doesn't have them listed as fitting my car and I think they would look better than any other wheel I could find.

Do you know how much it was to have them custom made?
Also, is there much room under those wheel-wells for lowering the car anymore? His stance is close to what I want, but I would like to drop mine just about 1 and 1/2 inches more.

      trans am

This is the setup I am going to go with also. I am running a full hotchkis suspension. So the 1 1/2 drop should work. Actually you almost need the drop to make it look okay.

      Here is the link

Ask for Dean. You want the 404's. Tell him Scott Yack sent you. If you are ready to buy these let me know. We will get them together and try and get a deal. I need the 17x11's

      Scott,

I am, in fact, ready to get them. I want the 17x11 on the front and 17x9.5 on the back. Is the $307.49 and the $294.50 the price with the custom offsets? That is MUCH cheaper than I thought it would be. I will call them on Monday and talk with Dean. Anything specific I should tell him? Also, did you mean the 405's? I do not see a 404 listed.

      17x11's

You are correct with the 405's. sorry about that. Yes, if you talk with him see if you add another 2 17x11's if he will give us a price break. We can figure out how to pay. Are you a pay pall member? Shoot me an email when you get a chance.

      Thanks

The reason why AR doesn't show the wheel for your car is because you have to custom order the bs. Also I am running 17x11 TTII's with stock brakes and I hade to put a 1/4" wheel spacer in to get it to mount flush because of the center part that sticks up in the middle of the drum.

      Torq Thrust IIs

I don't think I will need to worry about the spacer. I have the 79 T/A 400 (W72) that came with Disk Brakes....plus I plan on upgrading the stock package. Thanks for the info though!

Does anyone know if the 17x11s or 17x9s will be flush with the fenders or will they stick out of the sides of the car a little?

I have an update. I went to my local Discount Tire Warehouse and got a good deal. He was able to beat any price I had found so far. I got them for $280.00 each and there are no shipping charges. I ended up going 17 x 9.5 all around with a 5 inch backspacing. I decided against the 17 x 11 cause I didnt want them to stick out of the fenders at all, plus if I were to take an aggressive corner with the lowered car and the Hotchkis suspension I wanna put in, I was afraid the fenders might come in contact with the tires...those things aren't cheap ya know

Also, I have the added advantage of being able rotate them. Any complaints/praises?
