That's a good question. I'm still not quite sure. My nephew is supposed to come over this weekend with his car, which has the same wheels on it that I've got for the front. My plan is to put one of his on the front of mine so I can mess around with spacers and see where we stand. From what I've heard from others running the same type wheels, I'll probably have to cut them down some... we'll see.

The LQ4/9's are the iron blocked 6.0L motors. My plan ... right now... is to do a L92 head / L76 intake swap and then find an appropriate cam and hope for the best. I met with a guy the other night who is here local (he's actually a new member here, Nick@HPM) and has some pretty radical stuff going on over at this shop ... read, twin turbo Z06... I won't be getting that crazy, but feel pretty comfortable he can steer me in the right direction.

Exciting stuff going on... just no new stuff.... yet.

Great progress so far. That thing is gonna be fun to drive. LQ4/9...refresh my memory, is that the all-aluminum 5.3 liter?

So I talked my nephew into coming over this evening and letting me yank the front wheel off his SS Camaro so I could do some playing around...

      Herein lies the problem...

Without spacers at the current backspacing the wheel hits the UCA pretty quickly when you start to turn the wheels...

But... you really can't get the wheel on all the way because of this goodness...

It seems like I've read somewhere there is a fix for that though. I need to dig through CarlC's info again and remind myself what he did.

Here's a pic with the fronts on the car.

And one last little present I found tonight... When I went to put the old wheel back on the car I found this little dude hanging out.

I love poisonous spiders... just love'm.

Yeah dude. I was trying to get a good picture of it but every time we'd roll it over so you could see it's belly it would roll back over. Thing was freaking huge.

      Dead now.

-whew man- It's been a slow year for the side jobs (maybe that's what I should name my project...), but I finally came up with some $$$ and found myself a motor... finally! I folded and bought an LS6. It's currently at the machine shop getting the block cleaned up... new pistons are on the way, PatrickG over at LS1tech has spec'ed the cam... should be lots of fun once it's done.

      *will work for car parts*

I'll post some pix here soon.

This is going to be one sweet ride. Love the engine you are planning and the stance is going to be killer. Great job.

nice motor should be a sweet ride. Was it a complete motor when you got it , or a shorblock?

The guy had it sitting around as a complete motor... but I'm not wanting to use a lot of the parts from the complete motor, so we tore it down and rebuilt the bottom end and are working up from there... so, to answer your question directly.. I bought it as a short block, but with a bunch of extra parts thrown in. LOL

I *think* I'm going to use the Patriot Performance heads and an LS6 intake... but given the history of this project (as far as the motor is concerned) that could change. The cam I had spec'ed was with those heads in mind... so I'll probably stick with them.

Whew man... this economy has had me a little nervous about spending money on the car; but I finally found some stuff I've been looking for at a decent price... so I jumped on it.

I managed to score an LS6 intake, TB, Fuel Rails, Injectors, and various covers and misc parts for the motor. Very excited to have some new stuff in the garage. Feeling very motivated to buy more!

Good choice on motor, cheaper yet very buildable. Just got my 6.0 LQ4 back from my motor builder yesterday with L76 intake and shaved L92 heads. You can see pics of it in my project page listed below.

No doubt! This thing is taking forever... but I guess that's how it goes.

Yeah, I agree. I think I'll be happy with the LS motor, and I'm sure it'll make enough power for what I'm going to do with it.

I've changed my mind on these actually. Mike Norris has talked me into a set of TEA heads instead of the PP ones I was looking at. It looks like Stage 2 LS6 heads are in my (hopefully very) near future.
