It varies depending on a thousand different variables. How much has your ride height changed, how much have has the cradle moved since it was built, how many front-end components have been changed, where were the shims to start with? There is no way to determine how many shims you need or where they need to go. If you have enough knowledge to align your own car you should be able to eyeball it on the ground by yourself. There are also half a dozen different shim thickness' so where one guy may have 3 shims in the L/R shim pack (1/4") another guy my have 6 shims (1/8").

If he's got a level driveway, a little patience and some common measuring tools is enough to get it very close.
