      NASCAR Style Rear Suspension Kit

      Hey Gang,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with one of these Hotrods to Hell Centerdrive™ Truckarm kits. See the links below for pics and description.

There has been plenty of discussions about the HTH kits this forum over the last couple of years I've been reading this forum. I think the general consensus is for a kit it's a well engineered set up that performs. However there are other alternatives that perform better. It comes down to what are your goals and what are your capabilities as far as welding and fabrication. Price would be a third. For me it fit all three.

      I recommend it

I have the setup on both of my chevelles and would recommend it. I used to work down there for Steve, you should give him a call as he would be more then willing to answer any questions that you have.

I know a gentleman in SoCal that has the truckarm kit on his LS1/T56 powered 69 Camaro. His car is driven quite a bit on the street, but he also runs the Silver State Classic on a regular basis and he told me two things when I inquired about it the last time I saw him... he said 1) the car handles like it never did before, but 2) you'd better be ready for a noticably harsher ride as you will feel EVERYTHING in the road. I cannot remember what other suspension mods he had done at this particular moment, so I can't really tell you what all he has on the car to support the truckarm kit, but he seemed to have a very positive opinion of the kit.

I have it, and I've posted about it several times, a search should yield several threads on the topic.

      Got it as well

Just recieved my kit last week. I'm not close to installing it yet, but plan on doing the floor pan mods in the next few weeks. As soon as I get the seats and carpets out.

      Thanks for the info!

69boo307, I've been reading the old posts for over an hour, now. But did I miss any comments from you? I didn't see your comments on how it handles.

JMarsa, please post your thoughts on how it handles once you've got it completed.

Check out my comments in this thread from team chevelle:
      http://www.chevelles.com/cgi-bin/for.../4/22573.html?

I'm entering it its first autocross next weekend. Then I should have some more quantitative results. A friend of mine with 71 chevelle with a stock style suspension and aftermarket components is also entering. He has ALOT more motor than I do, so we'll see if my suspension/brakes can make up for it.

      Follow-up

Joe_Rocket - It won't be until the spring until the car is on the road. There might be a few others around that have it done before then.

69boo307 - I'd be very interested to hear your report from after the autocross. I'm building my Nova primarily for autox and occasional track days. Did you weigh you car before and after the install. HTH said that the installed kit would be lighter than the stock set-up, but after recieving a 220lb crate, I'm not sure. My goal is to keep the final weight (minus driver) to around 3000 lbs.

if you are replacing multi leaf springs will probably save some weight. Also you have to remeber that all the weight is low in the car. On the chevelles you gain a little weight, but the increase in performance far outweights any weight advantage that the stock setup might have.

all of the added weight is at or below the frame rails too, lower the center of gravity of the car.

A full autocross report is forthcoming, after the event on the 7th.

General feedback I have read is that the HTH setup is much more of an effective improvement over stock control arms in the Chevelle platform, less so on the first-gen F-body, due to the instant center effects being more pronounced/effective in the chevelle platform.
