      Alternative 1st Gen Camaro Rear End Choices

      Hi Guys,



      I,m look to replace my 10 bolt rear with a complete disk-to-disk rear end. I'm willing to spend about 2K, though I wouldnt mind saving some cash. I've heard of using Lincoln Versailles or Lincoln Mark (don't recal if it's III, IV, V, etc.) rears in the First Gens. But, I need some more info on what to look for in the junk yards, and how to identify the appropriate axle.

      12 bolts just seem, well, hard to come by. I've seen some of the shops offering them less brakes for 2K which bumps the price with breaks to $2500.

      For that price could I do a Vette IRS???

      Any suggestions would be appreciated.

      You could do an IRS for cheaper than $2500. I bought mine for $1500, an 86 Dana 44, spent another $40 on metal stock for the install. You have to be willing to do some fabrication but it is possible.

      I am using a Currie 9" extra heavy duty in my 67 Camaro. I bought the housing and axle kit, it included bearings and seals and they installed housing ends to bolt 1998-2002 Camaro LS1 discs on. This cost $750. I bought a complete set of LS1 rear discs from ebay for $175. The third member is a detroit locker with 4.11 gear that I purchased from musclemotorparts.com for $550. This combo should provide plenty of strength and put you well within your $2000 budget.
