      Water pump/block question (issue)?

Here is my dilemma. I just had a new 383 shortblock assembled using a 1999 vortec (GMC 1 ton) block, and when I went to install my Edelbrock water pump (69-76 long style) I noticed there is no bypass hole in the block. When I was at work today I looked at a 1997 truck and sure enough, bypass fitting coming off the pump like a big block! I also called World and Dart (neither has this hole) to ask what they recommend with their blocks- World says there blocks have more capacity, Dart says no issues.
A friend of mine thinks with my heater core always in the loop I will be ok. The engine builder thinks I should just run without a thermostat!
Are you just as confused as me now?
Can anyone shed some light on this?
      Thanks, Steve

Drill one or two 1/8" holes in your thermostat. Problem solved.
I do this even when there is a by-pass hole in the block.

If there is a hard way to do something, I'll find it!
